Rain expected on your next track day...would you cancel??

Just wondering how many of you would cancel if rain was the forecast on your upcoming track day. Friend of mine went recently, it rained and he wound up dropping a new Aprilia Mille Factory. Obviously it was a bad day for him.
I plan on heading out there to Pocono Thursday nonetheless, but I'll more than likely take it easy and just take advantage of the weather to learn something about my bike's handling characteristics albeit at a slower pace than I would like to ride.

no, unless they have some policy on a refund for rainouts.

there's alot to be learned regardless of weather. damp terrain will let you be very aware of traction and how smooth you are w/ your inputs.

1 tip is to soften up your suspension so it'll give a little bit.

but FWIW, you may want to bring a few spares like pegs and levers just in case ;)

not at pocono, especially the fusa course, a lot of walls and alot of speed, maybe summit or vir would be worth it. to be honest if you don't race or plan on it then whats the point of riding in the wet, most guys ride in the rain to gain a little experience just in case they have to race in it. It's your call really, how much do you want to ride

The organiser I use has a "if it rains we get wet" policy. There's no bailing out. (If the track owners close the track because of it, then there's rescheduling.)

Miles even got shafted because he wrote his bike off before the day and couldn't get a refund.

Rain riding offers valuable experience that will make you much faster when it's dry out. However, just because it makes you a better rider, doesn't mean it's fun. If I had the option to cancel for a refund, I'd reschedule.:O

We ride rain or shine.. I'd say you should go either way. we've only had rain at like 2-3 events over the years.. but had many more than that were predicted for rain. Dude.. Riding in the rain rocks.. don't wuss out just cause there's a few drops of it on the ground. ;)

I learned more about corner entry and tire grip in one day following a friend who is scary smooth when your riding white knuckled in the rain.

Id ride it rain or shine, there is always a lesson to learn. If you can learn to trust your tires and lean it in the wet, you can do so much more when its dry!

Ride it. Save up $350 till then, buy a set of rains or intermediates and go for it. You really will learn where you are not smooth. Albeit throttle control, braking, throttle application, left right body movements (my biggie but the big TLR helps hide this). Remember, DOTs in the wet you need to be like on glass but with rains or intermediates you can go balls out and not have problems.

Depends on the track, If you know its going to be horrible then I'd think about trying to sell the space on to someone else to try and get my money back unless you have to be there for race practice etc.

Having said that riding on wets makes such a difference and its good fun I think :coocoo

It depends. Most of our track days around here also have the no rain check policy. In that case I'd go ahead and ride it, however if givne the option to reschedule I'd go that route.

While I did use my gixxer as primary transportation rain or shine and am not scared of riding in the rain, track days ain't cheap and I'm there to have fun. While taking it easy and getting smooth are good for you overall it's not the most fun you can have.

Now...if given the option to do a free track day in the rain....HELL YEA, I'd be all over it....but not on a brand new Aprilia though.

AS it turned out, I was able to ride on August 5th with no real rain on the track. The track was in less than great shape from all of the debris and water from a previous weekend's NASCAR event.
Lots of rubber from cars and lots of standing water and mud on the asphalt that needed to be cleaned up before being able to use the track.
I had a good time nonetheless, glad I went, but some care had to be taken in order to avoid some of the track hazards until the water dried up some and the mud was dispersed.
Thanks for your input everyone.

No. don't cancel if its wet. I notice improvements I need to make in my riding a lot easier in the wet than in the dry. Just got to be careful and relax.

If I was a fair weather biker the TLR wouldn't have left the garage this summer...the weather's been shite here.
