:O my '03 TLR is still butt stock and doesn't idle well (idle fluctuates wildy and sometimes the bike dies) it also dies if i try to blip the throttle at all off of idle (love the sound) and has a severe problem with off-on throttle response (more than a little hesitation) at lower rpms. The dealer here in santa clara checked it out and said everything was fine but the bike died again at like 45mph in second gear for no reason at all yesterday morning... any ideas from anyone would be helpful...:banghead

Without going in to too much detail yet, do you know if the dealer checked the obvious first things, throttle body sychronisation and the throttle position sensor (TPS) adjustment? I'm pretty sure you can find step-by-step on here for checking it yourself if you want to. Doing these does make a big difference to running.

After that, plugs, all hoses present and correctly fitted, no air leaks, fuel pump working with correct pressure... It goes on, there's quite a few things it could stem from, but the first two above are the first steps. Keep us postyd and good luck :)

dealership checked the tps and synched the tbs said it "looked" like there werent any vaccum problems ie. kinked/cut/broken hoses the bike also has major problems starting (cranks forever) especially when its cold, just got the bike a week ago and had a cbr900 that started in like 1 second even if it was like 30 degrees outside and some people tell me that the TL motor is just tempermental and doesnt start well or run when cold but its REALLY hard to start even with the choke.. i always have to use the choke even when the motors at like 120 degrees:banghead :banghead

SAME exact problem as my 99 tls. I had to blip the throttle while pressing the on button. My bike also had alot of IDLE problems. It would fluctuate between 1.5 rpm up to 3.5 rpm sometimes, which is rediculous, and bad for the engine. It also had a vaccuum leak, and wet plugs. My mechanic is working on adjusting the idle, air/fuel, TPS, remapping the ECU, and some further inspection of the bike. My bike was involved in a wreck and improperly put back together when being rebuilt, so everything was out of sync. Hopefully, she will recover and I could start riding in the next 2 weeks.

Right, that's a bit more info, if the air-gap on the pickup isn't set correctly this will also produce the same problem, with the hard starting etc. Also, the pickup coil may be malfunctioning/tempramental. Worst case, CDI is up the spout, but this normally results in a total loss of running. I've had the odd one at work produce some very weird symptoms, funnily enough on Suzukis...
