Its actually for my Navigator.

Tried new O ring with nice clean surfaces..
Tried shortening inserts and a light sand to cover and suitable sealant.. it still leaks in the same spot between longest and shortest bolt.

Have you checked that it is warped?

You can check by placing it on a pane of glass and checking for gaps with a feeler guage.

I have not checked but i suspect it is as theres a very small but visible gap at the top mating surface,
no harm in confirming this way.

Thanks for your input :cheers

You could attempt to take out the low area by putting a sheet of Emery/sand paper onto a sheet of glass and sand the cover in a circular motion until the low area is gone.

Idea being that glass is pretty flat as it is formed from molten glass. Better still would be to do the above on a surface table. (I have assumed you do not have access to one).

Caution: Emery paper will scratch glass, don't try at eye level on the living room windows.
Ok so today i removed the cover again and was able to rock the cover from side to side on a pane of glass :argh So theres two high sides - opposing each other.
I do like your idea Dougie :yes but i dont think i'll have much left for the o ring to seal up to...good advice about Emery paper and living room windows.
just rub it anyway

the curve makes it seem much more than it is
