Well, I suppose they can't take my pride or dignity.

I could not sleep well last night because of my return to work and what it meant. I have a family to support but there is only so much a man can take before he throws in the towel and walks away.

That time has come for me at my job. On December 8th, I will have been with the VA. state system for five years. This means I'm vested, at retirement (65) I'll collect a measly $230.00 assuming I never work with the state again.

I return to work yesterday and receive my EWP (evaluation) as expected I received contributor but it's the tone of the written evaluation and message from management I do not like. Let's just say it paints a negative picture of me and my performance for every future employer to review. I have been looking for another I.T. position with the state for some time yet everything seems to elude me. I do not feel I have a real choice in the matter. Nothing will change, if anything it will get worse. I can't pretend I do not know how they feel.

The end result I return basically just to resign. I plan to announce that December 8th will be my last day this week or early next week. I'll need to check with H.R. to see if this is the correct date. I have 68 hours of annual leave and I plan to use every one of them.

This will be tough especially near Christmas but I can't deal with it any-longer. If I stayed though December I would collect an additional 24 hours of pay for the Holidays but in my opinion it’s not worth it.

The sad part is I do not have anything line up to fall back on but I’ll survive as we have always done before.

Hang in there Dell, do the best ya can and find something better. You don't want to end up without a job when you have obligations. I wouldn't quite till I had something lined up unless I had enough in the bank to hold me over for quite a while.

best of luck

Yeah, hang in there - if they've buggered your chance to get another job, you dont want to give away the one you got.

Still ... I know how you feel :(

Doesn't the state have some sort of mental illnes leave I know the federal gov't does and stress falls under that leave the fed gov't allows you like 45 days or something like that but you have to go to a doctor. It might be worth it to get you paid through the holidays. But anyways hang in there theres nothing worst than a job you loath going to.

They have definitely buggered my chances with the state system so it's time to go.

I came here looking and I'll leave looking I reckon. I can't take it. I have been waiting for this date so long and now it's almost here. I know the best thing would to be land something else first but there is no time.

IMO

They don't want me here, and as a result I do not want to be here.

I'd rather flip burgers for a living to get by then deal with not be appreciated or repected for what I do. My salary while decent is not great and I believe I can make it on less without the :bs I have here.

I've been thinking of getting an equity loan to start my own business. It's a risky idea but I know I'll always make enough to cover the mortgage no matter what I decide to do.

It's damn temping.

Ya think you'll be appreciated and respected or even make a living flipping burgers Del?:coocoo
Tell ya what dude, there's :bs everywhere so IMHO it's better to stick out a shitty job that pays than to be un-employed, personally I'd stick it out until I found something else, if nothing else just to make them hate me even more. :laugh
It's really not that hard to make a shitty situation fun if you think evil enough and use the rules to your advantage. :devious
Do you think perhaps that the last 3 or so years spent surfing TLP and TLZ on company time has anything to do with the way that they feel about you?:O
Not trying to kick a guy when he's down, but I have been waiting and you haven't gotten up yet.
When I have felt desperate in the past I have always used the thought of my family going without to pull me thru. If you get fired it's kind of understandable but to just walk away seems rather unaceptable to me, but that's how I feel and should in no way be construed that I'm looking down on you or anything, it's just the way that I think is all.

Perhaps you're a bit more polish than I but I know the signs and I've decided to start a new year with something different.

I have done what was expected but working for the state is not like working at any job. With any job you get fired or decide to leave, with the state if you get force out that's it, it's logged in you employee profile and it's a darn good chance that you will never be hired again in the state system. That is not a chance I can afford to take. Everyday I stick around is another day they could write me up on some charge.

I will likely stick it out until the middle of December or perhaps the end of the year but the time has come.

My mind is made up and yes the grass always looks green on the other side, sometimes it's not but the present is grim anyways.

I must hold my head up high and walk away.

I’ll post again once I resigned.

:cheers

So what is your work experience? Perhaps someone may know someone.

I know how you feel about just having to go. If you think you can bear, then do what you gotta do. My only fear is you never know how long it will take to find more work.

I am in the same boat, not as bad though. I like my job, but the people make the job a chore and a bad one at that. Don't stick with it if it effects your personal life, its not worth it. Do not let them take your dignity, and you'll be alright

I don't think you should stay at a job that makes you crazy, but make sure you're covered before jumping ship.

Noone will appreciate what you do Del. Those are the rare-as-hens-teeth bosses. Why dont you start your company & contract yourself out? My buddy in NZ did something like that & he's much happier - he's in IT too :)

Yep, it is work and you are fortunate to get any positives other than a paycheck. This is too bad as it does not have to be this way. Profits and productivity, which should be the point of any business, are better with decent employee morale but it is what it is.

Don't let personalities or political bullshit get you down. Instead, truly win by sticking it out, finding something better, then leaving. Otherwise "they" have won. Stick it to the man. Stay and find something better, then split, hopefully at a time that is particularly inconvenient to them.

It is always easier to find a job when you have a job and are coming from a position of strength. Otherwise, your obligations can make you desperate, which inevitably lands you in another shit job down the road. Break the cycle. Tough it out and find something better. I am sounding like a broken record on purpose here my friend :)

don't put your resignation in until after Dec. 8. If these guys are as big of turds as you make them out to be, then once you resign, they could just escort you to the exit same day....adios, any pension whatsoever. Play it cool until after that date, then kick 'em.

Very few companies have figured this out eh, which makes you wonder. Greed is good & all that but ... people wont bust their butts to make the boss rich.

I've known for a long time that the Japanese companies give a big bonus twice a year, which amounts to an extra 2 - 4 months salary a year. I thought that was good & all (gaijin-scum dont get it but :( ) but only just recently found out it the bonus was calculated with respect to the company's economic situation.

Which explains why all the salary men are at the office from 6 am to 11pm - they're cooking the books :laugh

Thanks for the advice but I will be leaving before Christmas.

I am sticking to the middle of the month of December. I just told my bosses and they all seem a bit surprised. I just found out that I would have received a four percent raise January 1st.. Oh well, that is not much any ways. Instead of $39250 year I would have been $40820

I may regret it but it is something I felt strongly about.

Of course it seems like they all liked me and I could have been fine, however, I know potential issues were coming. If I could have stay and avoided those issues, I would but not likely. It is for this reason I decided to go.
Thanks for the advice.

Tired of this rat race.
