Why do we own them?

Why do you own a tlr/s. Out of all the bikes. Why one of these? I can't define why I own mine. I've owned many other brands and models. There's just something that draws me to my tlr. How about you guys and girls

I just loved the nakedness of it. Then I rode it, and loved the power down low in the rpm range. Now I am addicted to this bike. I have rode my buddy's rc51, another twin for anyone who doesn't know, and just was not as satisfied after.
I wanted a wreck to fiddle with and to be my annual winter hack .... the TLS presented itself and I bought it ... I'd known about their reputation and thought I'll give that a shot. To be honest I'm not a fan of Suzukis but this machine is beginning to make an impression. Everyone else seems to like it too.
Because its different to everything else. It Has plenty of character oh yes and they can be somewhat of a headcase to ride if you want them to.
Always loved twins
All I ever wanted as a young bloke was a Japanese v-twin sports bike
I heard my actual bike about 5 years before I actually got it. I heard it...then saw it. Time after time I'd hear it riding by....didn't even know what it was. When I started looking, youtube, etc. Found out and read the history of the bike. The ill-fated attempt at greatness, the look, the sound, the lines. What's not to love? Kinda has a face only a mother would love, but that's me....love it.. :D
Nice to hear what other owners have to say. I love the fact that when I park my old girl that people of all ages stop to look at her. I've even had people take photos of her. That gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside.

Well, renewing an old post, I take delivery of one in a couple of weeks.

I've ridden better bikes but damn, the TLR has always been that bike that I've always wanted and soon I'll own.

Careful Stu...its not the problem with voices in your head...its when they stop, there plotting agasint u!

id like to have japanese twins!
I like it when people tell me they are shit and fat arse and handle like a tug boat...and I say.." have you ridden one" and they say..its what ive heard!...

I wanted it because of the sound, its a real head turner, loud and just an all round bike...and in last few months ive been dreading actually modding it...as i would have like to have the all stock to say , its all stock...
Wanted a TLS from the moment they came out, then saw one in the flesh at a local dealers and the desire grew stronger, had to wait about 3 years before I got one whilst I did my 2 year restricted licence but as soon as that was completed I strolled straight in and bought the last brand spanking new one around (2001), wanted a black or blue one but the only one left was the colour I didnt want, fire engine red and I've owned it ever since! Only seen maybe 2 or 3 bikes since that have tickled my fancy but I will NEVER sell my TL for another bike I'll be buried either with it,on it or because of it! Just love the looks the sound and now the rarity of it! It never fails to turn heads wherever it goes, I've had people hanging out of cars trying to shout how gorgeous it is over the noise of a full AKRA with no baffle packing in! That reminds me I really must repack the cans! maybe!
I was draw to this model when I decided to sell my 2004 Yamaha r1 (Mostely due to the fact that here in Quebec Sport bike plate are like 1000$) and the TLs doesn't fall in this category (Go Figure...)
At the time I was looking for something Sporty, different, on a Budget and the TLs was on off the Contender on that list along with: ZZR1200, ZX11, Bandit 1200, Etc..

I Got my 2000 tls model @ a bargain price and it was in almost pristine condition.
Althrue the R1 was a better bike, I prefer my TL because of the Torque down low, Different Sound (Yosh Can), the I can Kill you attitude of the Engine and frame, widow maker reputation, the fact that he has just enopthe Electric/Electronic to make it fun to work on it, I don't have to go 100mpg/h to have fun, Not much Tls on the road, every body asking what it is that bike.

A other reason is that the bike have a tremendous support by Owner (Tlzone and TlPlanet), with good answers to questions.

The most reason is that the bike have some kind of Soul, It difficult to explain but it like he has Feeling...

I just recently bought my tl I didn't know much about them to be honest but I'm the kinda person that likes to be different and with your everyday bikes there everywhere as far as I know I'm the only person around with a tlr and I love the unique sound and the fact of when I pull up anywhere people are like is that a busa or what the hell is that lol

Mine was by luck I owned a xvs1100 which I only bought because it was cheap and wanted to ride again after 5 years. I have always loved vtwins since I heard a sp1/2 then a TLR I then had a op a few months back and when I could ride again I had to take the xvs for a blue slip. When I picked the bike up there were 2 blokes looking over the xvs and one of them had the TLS sitting next door which I had a look at and took it for a test ride and straight swapped it for the XVS. :)
I owned a 04 zx10r and a cbr1000 06 but its a unexplainable feeling riding a vtwin.
Im similar to most of the replies, when I was stepping up from the kmx 125, I had known the reputation of the TL (widow maker, hard to ride, dangerous, etc). There was one for sale in a local shop, I took it for a test drive, it overheated and wouldn't idle but I couldn't wipe the big stupid grin off my face, I bought it immediately and have never looked back. Its not a sensible bike nor is it neighbour friendly but I love my TL, I love that its a bit of a brute to ride and it kicks you up the arse from low revs, its not too complicated to work on and its are a head turner. I'll never sell it.

I did manage to sort the overheating and idle (relatively speaking) issue eventually.
my first bike was a 98 gsxr600 loved it! seen my first TLR a year after getting my gsxr and fell in love. due to the fact brother, dad and friends all had gsxr1000s or r1s I became a sheep!! I finally for filled my dream and seen the light! never will I turn back! best bike I have had! yes it can be an animal at times but that's what makes it and gives it character. Yes people say its a big pig but thats only because they don't have the balls to ride the unpredictable. Good to be different! Awesome sound! its a love hate look and I do looove it!

I had 3 gixers stolen off me in the space of 12 months and the insurers refused to replace the last one or cover me for another new GSXR.
I went to a shop to look at a '98 SRAD, wasn't too keen on it but found old yeller sat in the corner. I'd always had a vague hankering for a TL so I took it for a test ride. That was 8 years ago. Its a hoot to ride and just a bit different. I kinda see me and it growing old together. It definitely moves faster than I do these days so I may have to change my sig but its still fun. Can't ask for anything more than that.
