its my first post on here and I'm looking forward to the witty banter but need help first!!!

looked at a tl1000r for my son but read many threads and searched for a while on here in the shadows!

it is cheap because its a cat d which doesn't matter to us at all here is a link: deos anyone in the uk know this bike??
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Suzuki-TL...9780015?pt=UK_Motorcycles&hash=item4acdc464af

looked at it has been down on its right hand side some scuff marks looked behind fairings etc.. seems to spin up really well bit tappety on tickover but that seems normal apparently?
fresh mot and tax and deposit down and got it for abit less than asking seems a bargain but are they reliable etc.... going to be used for commuting and fun by him he already has a zx7r and wants a twin after riding mine and the only ones available are a firestorm / tl1000r because he is only 20 no contest for me!

your thoughts please?

..... I hear Harley do some nice twins too! :devious

Yes TL's do have bit of a tick on idle, can sometimes be the rear exhaust seal. Rev the engine and the tick gets louder then goes away as the revs die.
Are SV's no good? Been a long time since I've had to insure a bike in my 20's.....:)
If you need any parts, I have just broken a 02 tlr, I was asking £1995 for an immaculate low mileage bike a month ago.
:laugh:laugh:laugh:laugh harleys:laugh:laugh:laugh:laugh not for us:laugh:laugh:laugh

I think the the sv1000 was a lot more to insure and he deos like the old school bikes hence he has a zx7r which he loves tried to insure a aprilia mille but it was way to much compared with the tlr which he likes the look off!!!!!
you always feel a little bit apprehensive when paying so little for a lot of bike!!! you instantly think whats going to happen why has he got rid of it??:confused were hoping being a cat d insurance write off he just got rid as some people will do that!and that's why its cheap!!!!! heres hoping!!!!!!:devious

that bike is close to you in Keighley blazing motorcycles?? why did you break it?? because it didn't sell???
any real shitters to this bike to look out for???? they seem very reliable or am I hoping:hail
From the pics I'd say that was worth £1500. If its even halfway decent then it will do nicely to keep your boy entertained. A few rattles are normal.
The only drawback will be that you will want to start modifying it at which point you can kiss all your worldly goods goodbye to fund those "essential" tweaks. :)

Motors are pretty solid and with general basic maintenance will go for many more miles than its showing. You may want to look at the suspension but get your man on board first. It will be a hoot after the kwak.

thanks mate we paid 1400 for it:devious its exactly what I thought it'll be more involving the 7r that is rather bland but has unbelievable handling when pushed hard but only exciting when on the boil!and you cant redline it all the time for a bit of fun!!! where I think the tl will be more fun for him wheeling out of corners , instant grunt etc
as for mods his 7r is modded and I'm a great believer he will like the tl more and throw abit of money at it for sure unless it becomes a pig i.e unreliable

there are 4 bikes in our garage already room for one more im sure:devious
The TLR isn't necessarily the wheelie monster you might think. They were designed for stability. It was a bit of overreaction to the bad press the S got when it launched. That's not to say they won't hoist off the throttle but its not in gixer territory for instance. One of the real charms is the fact that they never sound like they are trying but you'll find yourself doing, shall we say, elevated speeds with very little fuss. It feels and sounds like you are just burbling along but you look a the clocks and you've got 10K rpm and a 3 figure speed and you don't quite know how it happened. This does have its drawbacks though...

:laugh talking to the wrong person just got a ride course on jan 11 next month caught on the A1 then caught in in Donny just received 3 points 100 squid fine a week later caught in Belgium a month earlier(not heard out) and got caught moons ago 106 in a 60:coocoo I love twins me:devious
I know the tls gave the tl's a bad rep for sure!
pssst was that you in the pic getting caught

I wanted a quick sale as ive too many bikes and just slid off my bandit so needed repair funds. Blazing take some bikes off other shops that don't want them such as high mileage, crashed or too shabby for show rooms.

my impression was because it was a cat d they have it!!! and all dealers don't like any category writeoffs and sideload off to shops like blazing? the tl isnt that shabby to be honest!!!

Yep. But now I've paid my debt to society.

what did you get for that?

my 106 in a 60 (country lane) was a ride course and £250 fine
enough about badboy behaviour is it still a bargain? and were still nervous about taking the plunge!!!!!! no real massive issues then???
If you can get it for £1400 then buy it. Have a listen first. If you want you can have it fired up and post up a recording on here the real brain surgeons will be able to tell if there's anything grossly amiss. If its starts cleanly, idles evenly, doesn't smoke and there's no obvious knocking noises then the motor is probably good.
Check for fork seals and general cosmetics but from the pics it looks ok. Even a real nail will go for a grand. If I was in the market I'd consider it for sure.

I think itll be a bargain mate to be honest but he has no more money to spend if you get my drift!!!!
tell him to sell the zx7 then thats money to spend on it

as once he gets on the TL theres no going back

its highly unlikely he;ll get rid of the 7r its getting sorn and put in the garage! the tl will be his first vtwin 1000 (or firestorm) only twins he can insure!!!!!!
he said hes more concerned by going to the dark side:laugh
I wouldnt bother with the firestorm! too soft compared to the tl and zx7

plus if the cam chain tensioner goes on on the motor is just about toast and they are very very common for going
