I made a very simple hard wired one. Cost me about $1. I shit you not. I decided against a smart, or transister TRE cos these switch off in neutral; the tre made my bike start a LOT easier - this benifit would be lost if it is switched off in neutral. I didn't bother with a switched one, cos I see no reason to switch it off:).

Got my plans from here http://wotid.com/tls/content/category/1/27/57/, took about 30mins.

The advantage of the ones that automatically switch off in neutral is that the clutch lever position doesn't affect your idle speed.

If you're going to buy one, buy one of Jeff's in the link Joe posted. http://www.jsdproducts.com/index.html Get a JSD-3A

Now I'm even more confused , I need something that will help with the cold starting and wobling in low gears .
Don't want something expensive.

What do you reccomend?

Do I realy need it if I have a PC3 (not installed yet) ?

Yes, well worth the money. I bought the JSD.

The rev change Steve's talking about is hardly noticable - the TRE def. fixed my starting woes, and made the bottom more responsive - pulls cleanly from very low revs in higher gears.

I opted to buy one because I wanted simple Plug N Play... no splicing wires. Works great and love it!

I haven't checked the link, but the two things you need to know is

1. Does it have a 15K amp resister (for 6th gear map)?

2. will it plug into my gps plugs?

If you look click the link I gave you previously to Steve's pages, TRE, you will find a link to JSD products. Try it.

Here you go, I've done it for you. This is a cheap unswitched one that should help with starting woes. It's for '98+TLS/R http://www.jsdproducts.com/Product_Info/JSD-1A/jsd-1a.html

If you are wanting to improve hard starting, which mine has, I would go for 1a or 2a; I can't see how 3a will help with this, as it is automatically disconnected in neutral:confused.

Assuming you start your bike in neutral:O.

From what I can work out without looking at the code in the ECU, if you pull your clutch in to start it and your clutch switch is connected, you negate the effect of the TRE and the neutral map is run anyway - hence the change in RPM when you pull / release the clutch. i.e Clutch in - No TRE, clutch out TRE used / 6th gear mapping used, RPM change.

So even with a static / unswitched TRE, it doesn't affect the starting unless you pull the CLT wire on the ECU.

Part Number TRE-003...$85.00 Fits 1997 Suzuki TL1000S Only
I don't think it will help with starting as long as the CLT (#16) wire is connected to the ECU.

What are you asking?

I posted a link to Ivans 003 TRE for the 97 TLS, not a JSD 003. I then quoted the price on his site (Ivan's) for the 003 when you said you didn't know how much, I mentioned the CLT wire to the ECU in 2 posts.

I defer to your greater knowledge in all things electrical Steve; but I have to go by my experience as well: my bike was a bitch to start, I hard wired an un-switched TRE and it became VASTLY improved:O.
