Tokico 6-pot piston compatability

1087 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  TLR Junkie
RonAyers.com fiche says TLR front caliper seals and pistons are "discontinued" (and more than one number is shown, as if one was superceded and then that also was discontinued) and so are the early Hayabusa Tokiko 6-pots (slightly different numbers). But the 2003 Hayabusa Tokico 6-pots still show pistons and seals. Anybody know whether these will fit a TLR caliper? My used TLR calipers came with a gold-colored coating on the pistons, so they might be from a 2003 TLR? I know I previously ordered a set of pistons for a TLR and got shiny silver colored ones that were not coated.

bikebandit.com doesn't show any of the superceded stuff nor does it show any model year differences nor does it indicate any are discontinued.
I know this isn't what you are asking, but it may help:O

I've just been through this - I was refurbing a set of 6pots and 4 pots. The seals were shown as discontinued on Ronairs. I went to my local stealers and they wanted $80 a side (after I quearyied the original $160 a side) for the 4 pots. I didn't even ask about the 6 potters:laugh.

I ended up re-using the seals after a good clean with dishwashing liquid and warm water. A couple of the pistons were a bit pitted, but came up great with, 400 wet n dry, then 800, then some autosol. The rest got a good polish with autosol. I've only used the 4 potters, and with the same pads and lines they've gone from spongy brakes, even after bleeding, to 2 finger braking without squashing the other fingers, and the lever set on 4.

BTW, my pistons all had a gold coating on them too...bothe the '97 TLS, and the 99 TLR.

If you realy need to replace them, somebody posted a link to e-bay, with a full kit of everything you need to refurb your Tokicos, for a lot less than my stealer wanted for just seals. I'll see if I can find it.

Here you go:

Last time I stripped a troublesome caliper, I hooked up the master cylinder directly to the caliper, bled it, then pumped out the piston with that. Worked a treat, if a little time consuming to set up. I have a small block of wood about 15mm thick that I put between the pistons, then I can just pump out until all six pistons are in contact with it. If you're going to split the caliper halves I'd suggest loosening the four joining bolts slightly whilst the calipers are still in situ on the bike. The fork legs make a pretty useful caliper counter-holding tool :)

I used one of these seal kits for the last few years:

And had no trouble with them. My preferred Suzuki dealer also now stocks the same brand of pattern seals.
