Hey guys, looking at getting a pair of renthal sprockets and DID chain, what's the best sprocket set up known for the tls??

me thinks 17 front and 40 rear.

17/43

Tops out at around 160 if you ever managed to get it there, good acceleration without been too stupid.

I've allways liked. 17/40 have tryed 16/40 17/41/42 but for me 17/40 is what I like best

Whatever you decide try and avoid 16 on the front, that gives the swingarm guide a hard time :thumbup

I ran 17/40 for a long time then went 17/42. From memory, 17/42 makes 6th the same as 5th with std 17/38.

So if you can still ride it with 17/38 ride around in 5th for a feel for how 6th will be.

17/40 worked okay for me with standart links number (104) :O
:stupid

I used the standard length chain when running 17/40. (Although to get the chain over the rear sprocket, I would leave the axle out, push the wheel fully forward, chain on, wheel back and axle in).

No, stock chain is 104 links (17/37 or 17/38)

You guys I'm sure are correct, the formula used could have rounded up on the half link or something, it was about 7 years ago when I did it :laugh

I'm in the process of fitting a 43 rear sprocket to a 97 tls.

I've not yet checked to see if the chain is stretched, but the wheel appears to be either fully back or fully forward in it's adjustment.

Has anybody had experience of this, and got any comments on the effect on handling and stability.

17/43 is what we use racing and with a 106 link chain the axle is pretty central in it's adjustment :thumbup

17/41. Arm straightening accel, lifts in first if you wack it and hold it over 5k RPM... doesn't kill the gas mileage, and doesn't put the speedo much farther off then it already is
