No, the owner likes them as they are.

The reason the wiring is exposed as it is; is because it's got injection problems and is flooding which is something I can't deal with because it's injection and I'd need to access the management system. It only started flooding when the air box and filter went back on restricting the air flow. Once that has been sorted with an injection specialist the wiring will be wrapped with loom tape.

As for the Honda, I can't say I'm keen on them myself but it was the right price to buy and will fly off the shelf when it's ready because it's a CBR. Since this one runs like a dream I would estimate she'll be ready for sale around mid-August and the next project is going to have to be a Kawasaki :)

Make it a Z1300 six cylinder job then. :laugh
If I can find one at the right price I may well do :) But for the time being I'm thinking more ZZR1100 or 1400.

I've bought the CBR to sell and I'll buy future project bikes to sell as well, I've been offered a couple of rebuilds but to be honest I really can't be arsed doing another one due to the time pressure and the flak I get when things don't go according to plan.

Not being funny here but those I've done this for in the past and who've approached me to undertake another one seem to think they're paying for all the extra's involved, (such as wiring/engine problems), for a single rebuild price. In other words they seem to expect the bike to be put back together after a year or two of being stood and for it to run perfectly.

If only a rebuild was that simple <sigh>

I have a question for you guys:

The original exhaust on this CBR has a good silencer and one that's completely had it. Now the down pipes are a 4 - into - 2 so the question is if I blank off one of the outlet pipes on the end of the down pipe and just put the good silencer back on will it run into back pressure problems and choke the engine?

The pipe diameter is just over 2 inches but it takes a sealing collar which the silencer pipe fits into. The diameter of the silencer pipe is about an inch and half. Or would I have to fit a new silencer to prevent the bike from choking?

Only one way to find out. I suspect you will strangle the thing. Looking at the aftermarket stuff for the CBR1000F its all mostly 4-2. There are some 4-1 systems but they look like they use larger diameter pipes. Best join a Honda forum to find someone who can give you a definitive answer. There must be one somewhere for people with a mobile jelly mold fetish. :laugh

Oddly on the Honda forums they seem to be a strange lot or at least the Admins are.

I'm on two, (others I found I couldn't join because my Email isn't valid :confused ), and with both I'm waiting for the Admins to 'validate' me before I can post a single word.

I'm with you Snow and I think the thing will choke. I don't usually do mods like this but this is the exception rather than the rule as I wouldn't like to waste the good silencer. I have an old Kawasaki rear silencer kicking about without any baffles in which would probably work BUT ... (There's always a but isn't there :rotfl ), if I go in that direction I'm then going to have to start pissing about with needles and jets which then has it's own inherent problems due to the fact a hot day set up would be a completely different set up to a cold day or a humid day.

Of course the aim would be to go for a 'middle of the road' day set up which would be 10c to 15c with a humidity of between 40% and 60%. But since such a set up can take a couple of days, (mainly due to having to strip and rebuild the carbs which would be on and off the bike as well as the actual balancing), with the weather we've been having of late where it's been 21c+ one day and 12c the next it could take weeks to hit the right conditions again to complete the set up.

Those look insane. Will have to have a look on you tube to see if there are any views of them running. I bet they sound awesome. I heard a Honda Rune running at York Suzuki one day and it sounded like a Ferrari when the loud handle was twisted. They also had a boss boss in there once but that was a little bit OTT for my liking.

Is this thread turning into a how high can I piss thread :D

I'll be making the CBR a bit quicker with a chain and sprockets upgrade as well as a really fine tune up with a bit of magic on the carbs then a digital balance. Otherwise it'll be a standard bike less the lower fairings and belly pan since they're too gone to do anything with.

You know, it's entirely possible to go off people :p

I'm having enough problems with engine exhaust studs at the moment. Two just won't come out so they have to be drilled out.

Still it gives me something to do while I'm waiting for the wheels to be redone at the powder coaters since when they baked off the lacquer for some reason the paint blew out.

That V48 gives me an idea... Lets play find the faulty wire to the coil!
Hahahahaha! Wires!!! <Twitch> Electrical problems <blinks rapidly> Hahhahahahahaha!!!

I'm going for a lie down in a cool dark room now
