Question about Cam chain/tensioner noise.

843 Views 9 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  DOGG3R
My bike gets really noisy when it gets to op temp more like a chatter sound, I took it past a mechanic and they said it sounded like it could be the chain or tenstioner.
What I want to know is because engine is not that noisy before it gets to about 70degrees, could the chain/ tensioner get louder with heat? The mechanic wasn't able to answer this.
I thought someone here could clear this up?

Cheers.

Its possible. Things warm up and expand, oil viscosity changes and so on. Some of the noises are "normal" however. I have a recording of mine before I got the cam chains done. You can have a listen and compare.

Now the file in the link is not what it claims to be. You'll need to do a right-click- save-as and rename it from .png to .mp4 so your media player recognises it properly. Its a pain but its a restriction of the web server service its on.

My tiller still rattles but nowhere near as badly and I'm less worried about it self-destructing.
That link doesn't work :confused will be awesome if I can compare it to what urs sounded like :)

I'm running full synth 10w-50 I noticed it is a little louder since swapping from 10w-40 mineral but dont want to dump the 120dollars.

I have sort of just been living with it and telling myself it's all ok a tl is supposed to be noisy but freaks me out everytime i ride it lol.
Actually wait didn't read the post properly will try it again
Nah. It doesn't work. Looks like the hosting service has dumped the file.
Lets see if this works....

Yup that worked, that sounds horrible lol.
Mine sounds more clickity clack and it does not seem constant on idle as I recall but starts being constant around 2k rpm and follows the revs Will try get some audio of it when I ride it next.
Have you got audio of what it sounds like now that you fixed it?
Didn't sound all that bad to me.

:stupid

An AFTER video is definitely in order, so we can hear the TL's proper rattles. :)

Honestly, it didn't sound that bad to me, but that could be partly due to the acoustics and my laptop's speakers. :dowhat

Snowblind, if you make a new video, get sound clips from both sides of the engine..... at equal distances. Make sure your finger is not over the camera's microphone.:laugh
I'll have you know I take a very good photo of the end of my finger. I'm even starting to believe my children's faces are actually fingerprints. :laugh

Just waiting for a couple of bits to arrive then I'll post the pictures and sounds.
Could be my crappy earphone making it sound worst then what it is :O.
I will eventually get the audio.

Apparently my bike is too loud to have running in my unit complex, I'm on my first and final warning from strata and the real estate thats what a few minute tps adjustment in your garage will get u, 1 more complaint and me my son and my wife will be out on the street what a joke right?

Some people just don't appreciate a nice sounding bike :banghead
