Has anyone tried to tidy up the plastic trim where the ram air tubes meet the
frame?

Yes the rubber boots.
Every time I clean the bike I keep wondering how to tidy up this "cheap import look "but the boots are probably there to stop crap getting in.
I like the look of the aftermarket tubes but wondered why the first stage of the air tubes (at frame) could not be replaced .
Thanks for the reply.

Buy Chelapa's ram air tubes :yes

The OEM ones are 2 parts - one part is bolted onto the fairing & the rubber boot connects it to the frame (and then the airbox) & seals it. Chelapa's go into the frame so you can junk the boots. If you want.

Yes I keep looking at these all the time but could be a bit expensive shipped to OZ.
I also prefer the finish of the carbon look nose covers and want to retain the wire gauze to deflect stones.
