The gas tank that is ... yes yes I know the manual says "17 liters" but is that the total internal volume or is that how much gas I can put in it or is that the volume from average fill to below the fuel pump intake holes or ... you see my problem.

I fill it, reset the trip meter, ride & the orange light starts flashing around 150km then stays on around 180km & I fill it up about 200km although if I brake too hard for too long it stalls the engine :) and I put in no more than 14 liters ... usually around 13.5.

So ... how many liters until I'm pushing the bike to the gas station?

I've put 4.56 gallons in mine before. Bike was running when I pulled inot the station, but would die under any hard braking...49 state TLS of course:)

10 inches. Oh, the gas tank..
HAAHAAA:laugh :laugh cyclecamper you aren't related to freak are you??

I get pretty much the same thing capacity wise as you do kamikuza, but usually 200ish km before flashy, and 230 on solid (most of my riding is open road), most ive put in is 14L and it stalled as i slowed down to pull into the servo.

maybe the quoted 17L is without the pump assembly and tipped upside down then filled to the brim:O Theres always an air gap at the top of the tank whel filled right way up, even when the filler neck is about to overflow.

I used to regulary put 14 / 15 litres into the tank. Once it stalled in the street while I was giving way to pull into the servo. I pushed it to the bowser. 16.92 litres :) I knew I was cutting it fine. :laugh

7-Feb-00, Lorne, PULP, 235.1km, 16.92litres, 38.9mpg, 13.9km/l, 7.2l/100km

6-Mar-00, Geelong, Optimax, 233.0km, 16.08litres, 40.6mpg, 14.5km/l, 6.9l/100km

or when I took my kid of a ride

6-Feb-04, Bacchus Marsh, Apco PULP, 245.6, 11.98litres, 57.5mpg, 20.5km/l, 4.9l/100km if I waited until 16 litres would have seen 328km on the trip meter.

I usually fill it up when the light start flashing at around 180-200kms and then I usually put around 13-14 litres in the tank...
The manual says the light starts blinking at about 4.5l left in the tank, and goes solid with 2.5l left. I believe that's pretty accurate on mine.

EDIT:
0.49l/10km is very lean Steve...

And because I can too: :laugh
My best is 0.53 where I got 267.7kms on 14.07l on the 7/7-06
Most gas filled is 15.42l which took me 239.2km
Longest run is the above with 267.7kms.

See, mine starts flashing at 150km & solid at 180km ... almost without fail yet I put in the same gas as you with almost the same economy (usually better - 14.5km/l avg) - is it just a quirk of my bike then?

My average this summer is 16.13km/l. That doesn't explain the difference though. :confused If the 4.5l reserve tank volume is correct, then you should have 12.5l to fill her up. If I fill her up right at the start of blinking light I put about 12l in the tank.

Btw, it might be running lean now as I have a full system and no remap. We'll se after next summer when I've modded my airbox and remapped.

Back when I had the TLS I never got more than 110 miles to a tank. Anymore than that, I'd run out.
