I had a plan. A good one too. Trouble is I'm a twat and can't stop fiddling. So instead of getting to the end of phase 1 I got embroiled in the finessing aspects of phase 2 ... haven't even finished that and now I'm dicking about in phase 3!!! How'd that happen:confused its that feckin eBay that's what it is. Spotted a brand new tank in the right colour ... made an offer ... now own it:rolleyes
So now I have a spangly tank I need better plastics then I'll be wanting other stuff. Gonna have to keep going ... bloody machine is a bottomless pit. It's gonna look good ... no idea what it'll be like to play with.

I spent ages looking for a standard bike and since then done nothing but change parts... Admittedly some were due to a little mishap in France but even before that I'd bought Ohlins shock, Upgraded rectifier, Busa forks and radial calipers, GSX clocks, HID lights and that's just Ebay. Then there is that bleedin' Van guy selling stuff for the TL's.... he's worse then Ebay peddling his wares with pretty pictures ...... worse then visiting a crack house when you go to the 'Group Buy' forum :laugh

Sometimes I wish I had the strength to add blocking filters in my firewall for ebay, craigslist TLP and TLZ. :banghead
Blocking filters - otherwise known as "children".
Even with a "restore to standard " project ,when finished you think " I can do it better " and start all over again ,it never ends . If it does ,we get bored ,sell it and start again on something else .

i know what you mean fella......buy that nice shiney part, stick it on yer bike and it makes the bit that its bolted to look shite...so you replace that and the game continues ;)
i started rebuilding my b12 4 years ago,had a 3k budget and a year to do it.went over budget in the first year and then carried on for another 2 years does look sweeet though :)
im trying my best not to do the same to the tl....hasnt stop me looking at modern forks n brakes everyday for the last 2 weeks though.only got new levers so far
Now it cost about £40K to build a Kawasaki GT550 from parts over the counter 20 years ago. Allowing for inflation and Suzuki, I'm guessing £50-60K to do the same for a TL. Just been scanning the Robinson's site and even with NOS discounts some of the numbers are scary. £2K for an exhaust system anyone?

There is no such thing as "restoring to standard" :banghead

This one was supposed to be and may seem standard, but a keen TL connoisseur will tell it is far from it:

One would say the project failed with major scope creeps and budget overblown. :lol

To the OP: Staying focused isn't easy when you don't have a project planner (aka slave driver) right next to you and making you read and stick to the whiteboard everyday. :lol

Very pretty all the same. I particularly like the standard Ohlins, Yoshimuras and wavy discs. :laugh

Whoooo hoo! Buying NOS from those boys is gonna hurt. So far I've bought NOS from what was George White and a couple of other small scale outlets ... Haven't paid more than 20% of retail yet. Brand new (upgraded) tank still sealed cost £180 ... I couldn't refurb my original for that. Can't go wrong can ya. You gotta GYSOT!!!!
