My question is.....I'm storing the bike in a 60 degree basement and putting it on stands. I'd like to take the tank off to do the airbox mod. Will the tank and the bike be ok without any gas in it for the winter?

the absolutly best way to store a tank is dry, and inside where the humidity is low...

leave the cap open and stick a clean paper towl or rag lightly in the hole. let it breath. cover it with a blanket so it doesn't get scratched or dinged

well, Ok, the BEST way would be in an empty in an Argon filled box with an argon purge on it, armed guards in a tempature and humitiy controled room comprised of 12 feet of renforced concrete 200 feet underground accessable by 4 biometric protected locks...

but I digress.

you know you dont have to take the tank off to do the airbox mod. you just gotta raise the tank to get the box out. no need to disconect anything.
