If you've been here a while you all know I don't suffer fools..................

I answered a thread truthfully to a newbie suggesting that given the content of his thread he did not have the necessaries to do it himself and suggested he take it to a mechanic.

a tirade has followed................

I must admit I've been tossing petrol on the flames.......

Seems this fellow is susceptible to self immolation also.........

Truthfully, I felt you were a little hard on him at first, but as the thread developed I realized you saw something I missed. I think he started out sincere, but things changed quickly from that point. He seems a little too thin skinned for forum interaction. Hell, I've done nothing to the guy and he accused me of fraud. From the contents in the PM you posted, it appears he might be a troll, something we haven't seen around here for quite some time. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troll_(Internet) I wish he would register under his real name. Could it be TL Will?
He seems to have all the answers, he is just looking for affirmation. So I say let him learn his way. If he ****s it all up, there will be more spare parts for someone in need. If he doesn't, he will come out with more mechanical knowledge and more understanding of what most have tried to explain to him.

Don't be a dick to new members. Take them in and help them out. They will learn the ropes just as you did. In turn, they will pay subscriptions, patronize site sponsors, and keep forums such as this alive.

A couple of thoughts.

First what's with all the "new" members suddenly appearing? Not that it's necessarily a bad thing, but it seems the older membership is fading.

Stu, I don't think you went far enough. If the guy wants to be a douche, hopefully he'll disappear soon. The Felipe persona reminds me more of the Hayden, Sam1979, whiplash, and JasonandApril person that kept getting banned on TLP.

Brandon, this forum won't even be getting my money anymore. Its ad driven now so I see no need to contribute any more money here, and I'm finding it harder to spend time here as well. Btw, did you see the picture of my "new" triples?

My thoughts on this are ,I really don't see that beating up on someone is a healthy way to start .
It's going to aggravate things from the start when all that may be needed is (if your tired of saying the same things over and over) "the search button is your friend " or "look at previous threads on the topic".
That being said ,sending pm's of that caliber (OP) is not only childish but idiotic .
I don't see the demise of a valuable resource (TLZ) whether there are adds or not as beneficial to any of us .
Cant we all play nicely ?
Even though I no longer own a whole TL ,I still like coming on here . It would be a real shame to see all this disappear .

That's my 2 cents .

you dont even own a tl so shut up ;) lol in fairness stus always direct a d straight to the point , its not his fault flip flop or whatever his name is wasnt cuddled enough as a child :) , i think the zone needs a fight club , and the first rule of fight club is :)

I just ignore folks like this Stu. You'll notice I've done so with this one.

And there's no use in treating a new person any different than the old ones. The kind of person they are will come out eventually regardless of any kid glove treatment they may receive at first.

I don't care about the history and I've been a member of enough bike forums to see and get to know all types.
I've even started my own flame war on occasion :)
I ignore pissing contests which might be good advice for some.
I'm new here. Not new to bikes. I crashed one 43yrs ago and I still ride :;

Carry on, nothing to see here!

Ive been around a little while and even been involved in a squabble or 2. Sometimes they do go too far. When it does happen I expect to Mods to contact the parties involved and tell them to cool down and respect each other or move on. This is what happened to me a few years ago. I didn't like it and had to cool off for a long time, but it's what needed to happen. I only caught a few of the posts Stu is referring. People who start stuff usually don't stick around too long around here. I guess it's just the law of attrition. Let it go guys. We're all very passionate about this thing we do called The TL1000.

I didn't set out to wind him up but I guess when he flared up with a doctoral thesis length response to the suggestion that his post showed insufficient ability to me to do the job.............it was game on!

they say the sum of one and one is two but in this case fanning the flames resulted in nuclear level reactions.

I stand by my assertion that he lacks the skills. his actions so far display this.

the threads read more like a look at me and confirm me rather than please help me and I'm listening ..

anyway it seems that the fire has dropped to a manageable glow.

well my 2c for whatever it's worth... seemed to me like it started as a genuine question for anything to check that might be peculiar to TL's, just some pointers to look for, which did get an initially sharp response, and no clues or help with the problem. Everyone has to start learning somewhere, or we'd all take everything to dealers all the time, and even if inexperienced people mess things up then (a) it's still a way to learn and (b) if you count the hours wasted as a learning experience, the extra parts cost may outweigh dealer labour charges.... (and I am speaking as an ex-Suzuki dealer) I messed enough things up years ago, but like to think I learned from it.

I'm not saying that justifies the tirade that followed, and certainly not trying to criticise any more knowledgeable forum members, but TLZone always struck me as a less aggressive forum than many others, and that thread didn't seem to be.....

here is a thread that I commented on on the planet..

the initial information that is given is clear and in a form which indicates to me the person has both the ability to describe a situation and to link events meaningfully.

he also follows direction giving his findings as he goes . brainless and six5 sort the problem in super quick time.

I know I get a bit jumpy at times but I'm sensitive to the way things are presented.

And I am honest with people about taking things to a professional for evaluation........it costs nothing in most cases

or at worst an hours labour.

What makes situations like this such a headbanging experience is that I am vindicated by the response .

And my comments are based on the behaviours of people with the personalities I describe.

whcih further vindicates me.

Trust me on this one....its not rewarding being right.

Its just hat I am a person who is wired to be right.

If I get something wrong I go and find out why and learn more about the situation.

But I guess on reflection when I spent half a day with such a person at my house being as informative and polite as possible to have this very same situation arise I guess I have my radar on super sensitive now.

So I guess if someone posts with the tell tale indiators I'll just stay out of it and let them turn the efforts of the good natured members upside down trying to talk them thru the problem.

( but on a closing note..........is not a socket dropped anywhere in the motor....or any other foreign object for that matter. and its on the integrity of Felipe to actually disclose what the problem was when he finally gets there.)
