I've just got these awesome wheels from Friday man and am gonna strip the paint off so my cousin can spray them for me. Was going to go down the route of using Nitormors, anyone know if this has any structural affects on magnesium:confused

I wouldn't let ANYONE do anything to mag wheels unless they know what their doing. They need to be done properly as the guys are correct in saying mag wheels are porous.
You really don't want to deal directly with Marvic (Italian time is even worse than Africa time), which is why I spoke to Dymag and Yoyodyne in the US.
Sorry for the digging up.. but what are the do's and don't with the magnesium wheels? I've spotted some Penta II's which are 2 years old. Come of a streetbike etcetera.
If the paint/coat is ok, how long will the wheels last? Do they corrode slowly anyway? Any input welcome here!
Magnesium does have a "shelf life" and will naturally deteriorate over time. I understand you can have them checked by a specialist - xray type thing I think? It is porous and needs to be painted. If I am wrong on anything I am sure someone will put me right.

Being porus does,t mean it will rot away, it simply means it allows water to pass through it,it doesn't mean that should water come into contact with it it would damage it.
Once painted the wheel would be sealed anyway
I can see how any manufacturer would build a wheel out of self destructive material.
Bare magnesium will corrode in air, add moisture and it will corrode even quicker. The more it corrodes the more it becomes porous and even when painted will leak air.
I use 2 pairs for racing, as long as you keep them painted/powder coated they are fine. Unless you know their history and age I would be careful about using them on a road bike, or for piece of mund have them X-rayed and repainted by one of the manufacturers listed previously
Ever wondered why RG500 engines are worth so much, the cases are magnesium and only takes one owner to not use antifreeze and the damage has started.
Little update: I've been looking around for some info. My local dynoshop couldn't really tell me allot on magnesium and stuff. But they where about to buy a load of new wheels and I could join in if I wanted too! The price is very very good so hard to let it go! Now I thought let's just go for alu because of the fact it doesn't loose strenght. But I've just looked at the differences in weight and it's absolutely huge! A rearwheel of alu weighs the same as a set of alu/mag :O
This got my thinking again :confused I don't have to do anything to make sure they are true, they don't cost more, are in the color I can choose and everything is new, like bearings and stuff. And it saves me 3,3kg! Weight saving is one of the main reasons I'm changing my TL to a fighterlike beast
If, in a situation as discribed, the wheel is 100% how long would you guys ride around on them? We ain't have allot of potholes here but everyone knows the TL like's to loft the wheel up..
If they are replacing stock TL wheels, the Alu will make a big enough difference that you won't think that you have wasted your money
