Not talking dentistry :laugh I'm talking about front and rear sprockets...

Mine has currently got standard sprockets, what's the benefit of changed the teeth?? And what's the best combo?

Cheers

Most people go 16/41 as mentioned above. But if you're not feeling a lack of low end power, it's really a judgment call. Changing your gearing will give you more torque at any given speed (raising RPM at that speed) at the expense of fuel consumption and getting you to redline quicker.

If you alter your gearing, think about getting a Healtech Speedohealer from us. From the factory your odometer is correct but your speedo is usually off +/- 5%. With a -1/+2 sprocket change, your speedo will be reading as much as 17% high, and your odometer will be reading about 11.5% more miles than you're actually traveling. So you'll want to address that issue.

FYI, I do not generally suggest a 520 conversion on the TLR or TLS for 95% of owners even though chain/sprocket technology has advanced over the years. While going to the lighter (20/80 or 1/4" thickness) sprocket/chain drops rotating mass, if you're not racing I'd stick with the 530 (3/8" thickness) sprockets. But if you wanted to do a 520 conversion, it's a must to go with a really high tensile strength racing chain and hardened sprockets, and expect to put a lot of wear on them.(again, ONLY suggested for guys racing these bikes)

I tend to run 18 or 19 tooth front, and then a rear to achieve the desired ratio. I have an 18 on the TLS and a 19 on the TLR. That's just because I like to keep the chain away from the swingarm. On the other hand, on some TLs that gets the chain really close to the exhaust system. With my really big sprockets I can get long life from hard-anodized aluminum rear sprockets if I use really good 530 chain. But the chain does end up long and heavy. Some people thought the chain would pull the swingarm differently but that's never been any problem for me. To each his own.
I went down 1 on front and up 6 on the rear, it made the bike proper fun :)
Shameless plug for a beautiful red brand-new 530 42-tooth rear sprocket:

Plain old stainless for me, sorry lol

Think I'm going for 1 down on front and see how that goes.....

My recently aquired tlr has a 46 tooth rear sprocket, 108 link chain, havent checked front one yet.goes great but speedo 30% or so high!
In the real world of practicality, my world, 17/40 is what I have found that works for me in 95% of my riding. If I were to ride this one more sport touring, I would go 18/40. The taller gears make hi speed cruizing a bit more enjoyable. This bike is my local day trip setup now. I've run a 16/ sprocket before and found that first gear, for me at least, is pretty much useless, and it's like there is no 6th gear anymore. Our twin has good torque and likes the more space between gears as well. YMMV...
To many teeth?

Brought a 2000 tsr about 2 months ago.noticed the speedo was way out..17t on front and 46 on rear!,seems quick enough for me ,but don,t know whether standard rear would be any better as most of my riding is done on twisty b roads?
