I can't get it open!!! :banghead
I've got the right key but I can only turn it about 45° instead of 90°.
My plan is to change the lock to match it to my ignition but apparently it cannot be removed without opening it first!

Anybody have any tips or clues?

I'm pretty desperate... :O

Put some graphite into the lock
spray WD40 under the outer ring

If nothing works, remove the bolts and try to remove it anyway.

Greetings

More jiggling, jiggle the key, jiggle the cap. Try adding and releasing pressure on the cap as you try and turn the key :dunno

(After you jiggled graphite and WD40)

spray it down, and give the key some pleasure with a little in and out action to work the lube in. Then try and wiggle and turn.

If you have a new lock mechanism, slam a damn srew driver down into the lock and open it and then switch everything.

It would have to be drilled out first to do the old screwdriver trick. I wouldn't drill it with in being in the tank...
