I noticed water coming from the right hand side of my 1997 TLS. On the water pump housing there is a drain screw and just below that is a hole. It is from here the water was coming from.
Looking in the manual it said that the mechanical switch and rubber washers will need to be changed.
So I purchased new ones, fitted them all in and it is still leaking!!!!:banghead
Any ideas on why this could still be doing it????
I replaced every rubber washer the switch, every thing that is in there and now I am at a loss.
Best guess is you screwed up the new seal when you pushed it over the splined shaft or the shaft itself is a bit rough and buggered the seal right off. You need to put something (I.e. tape, plastic bag, etc.) over the shaft when you slide on the you can clean the shaft up with a bit of emery cloth or the like.
Edit: It's also a good idea to change the oil seal behind the water seal while you're in there. It's cheap and saves a trip back in later.
:stupid you must have shagged the new seal, its not uncommon for it to take a couple of attempts, i was one of the lucky ones and got it first attempt but i was meticulous in preping everything, did you replace absolutely everything?? as i changed all the washers aswell which i know most do come with the new seal, looks like your gonna have to rip it open again and try and see where you went wrong.:banghead
Ok so it looks like I might have screwed it up but I was really careful when putting it all back together. I cleaned every thing and made sure it was all put back as the instructions.
So the water is leaking between the mechanical switch and the last rubber washer, so with out buying it all again (which I think I will have to) where do think I should start?
I tried to cut and paste the diagram on here but I cannot do it. So I replaced the washer on the inside of the impeller. The switch and the rubber on the inside of the casing. There is nothing else to replace!!!
I replaced every thing like for like all except that washer. The one that was on there looked good to me until I looked at it in a blown up micro-fiche and it needs to be a rubber gromit+lock washer. The one that was on there was a fibre washer.
ALL SORTED! WOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOO
Thanks for the help!!!!!
