Bought a nice black gear shift lever through ebay, waited what seemed like a year for delivery, it came today so I've put it on only to find that the thread for the linkage rod isn't cut left handed!!!!! God damn it!

Is it possible for me to re cut the thread to left hand if i got a tap to suit? Or do I just suck it up and buy a new genuine one and get it powdercoated to match the rest of the bike

it should be OK it wont be as strong as if it was just the correct thread .

alternately you could buy a piece of 6mm stainless threaded rod and cut it to suit.

it would be pretty close to get the lever position correct with a bit of trial and error.
you could also grind off the rivet on the piece and replace it with a heim joint ( rod end ) with a small 6mm bolt to attach it
had a though - i could fill the tapped hole with weld and re drill and tap it correctly....

The HM Quickshifters I fit at work have a twin thread on one end of the sensor to suit the position you want to fit it on the rod, you should be ok (with the lock nut) as the forces involved are not massive, unless you have a club foot of course.

Fitting a HM Plus on mine soon, excellent bit of kit, sensitivity and kill duration, no need for a Power Commander either.. :thumbup:thumbup

I wouldn't weld the hole and retap. The weld is gonna be harder than the part and it will not likely drill the hole in the same place. The bit is going to want to start the hole all around where it was but it will be hard if not impossible to drill in the same spot. I would drill it out, put some jb weld on the threads and insert the rod into the shifter. Fiberglass resin may even work better.
Or just buy the genuine part and get it anodised....by the time you have wasted and spent trying to correct an inferior part you could have it sorted correctly.

Learn your lesson and dont buy shit, its cheap for a reason.

I may be in trouble then. I just ordered a new starter relay/solinoid for $9.80 shipped, coming from China. I guess well find out when it arrives.
