So looking through the suspicious cabling, I'm guessing the coil packs are powered directly from the battery through a relay as the regulator rectifier is fried.... ?
I've read about the mosfet rectifier from an R1, is this a difficult modification with sourcing plug and crimps?

Wow!! Read this thread from the 'Planet, https://www.tlplanet.com/forum/the-...0-definitive-electrical-system-upgrade-thread . I'm sure it's here too, but it's easier for me to find over there. I did it to my bike. I'll say, if I can do it, then you can as well. It's well worth doing. Also look at doing the headlight mod. That essentially takes the headlights off the main loom and allows the bike o start easier, as the headlights aren't pulling power as the bike is turning over. I appears that someone has possibly done the "plus mod," similar to this, https://www.tlplanet.com/forum/the-workshop/frequent-tl-mods/60188-installing-brainless-plus-mod-kit

Many thanks for your help, I've upgraded the rectifier with a kit, super simple to wire up as long as you have the correct crimping tool, also sourced the bracket and relocated the R/R to the factory position.
will look in to doing the headlight mod next after I've sussed the coolant usage issue.
