Ok, spent a week in Robbinsville, NC last week and rode about 250 miles a day out there. All I can say is that I'm in love.

I've been back in southeast Virginia for a few days now and all I can think about is Highway 129 and 28, the mountains, the cool group of motorcyclists out there, and even the locals who obviously don't like you very much, lol.

I tried taking the bike out on the local roads today, but I've been spoiled. They suck.

Anyone else been spoiled by the Dragon?

Here's a pic of me on 129:

Yea, gotta love the dragon. I live only 30 miles from the NC side and it is the best road around, nothing compares.

Only a month!!! I took along a buddy and he had 3000 miles and struggled with those turns. Just the fact that you went :hail

Don't feel bad about taking the turns slow. I taped my runs and I averaged about 35-45 through most of the turns. I should be doing better than that for having the experience I do. Heck, I've still got 1/8" chicken strips on my back tires :banghead

Of course, I lean way off the bike in the corners, so that's my excuse for the chicken strips :laugh

:stupid I've never been on the dragon but after being on the track I'd find it difficult to believe any street could measure up to the track, including the dragon.

The Dragon is cool. I was there in December. Surrounding roads are quicker and more open. I'm off to the track this spring/summer/fall. The Gap will be thrown in there also.

Yeah, that place is pretty cool. So cool that the year after I dragged my TLS cross country with me that one year I did it again the year after. Well, I was hauling a bunch of my brother's belongings from Cali to Virginia both times & thought it would be a good idea to bring the TLS. Good idea & yeah that is one nice road. There are a few in that area (very close to Deal's) that are just as sweet but most of the hard core guys that ride up there shut up about them. If you plan on going back out there take a map with you & try out a few roads that branch off of 129.
:devious
My biggest nit about Deal's after being spoiled by riding various racetracks in the western US (am at 12 different ones at this point) is the road layout. It sure is sweet doing all those switchbacks for miles & miles with sections that open up especially toward the bottom. I think there was one somewhat decreasing radius turn in all those switchbacks that you get coming on downhill. Not really tight & signs were posted it was coming up. However the racetracks I really like now are the ones that are the most difficult for me to ride. The ones that have really late apex turns, double apex turns, decreasing radius turns, turns whose apex is at the crest of a hill, etc. Sure those places piss me off at first & after a few hours of frustration I start laughing at it all. The track has got me beat & I have to keep doing laps & really challenge myself to get it down so I'm fast out there. Those place are the ones that are special to me these days...
