Hello All,

2001 TL US Spec.

I am having some issues that are really starting to turn into a head scratcher. I took my bike out for a ride a few months back. I went in for lunch at a restaurant and came back out to a bike that would not start.
After further inspection the fuel pump relay was clicking but the bike would not start. but at this point I was not getting any error codes so I got the bike back to the house via a pickup bed.

I was looking on the forums and came across the relay test. when testing the relay I jumped 2 wires to see if the fuel pump would make some noise ( i do not think it was the correct ones ) and now the relay will not click on when turning the key. this is when I got a flashing FI and the F1 code that turned into the C41. I checked the fuse box and the 10amp fuse for the fuel pump was still in tact. Checked the Starter Relay fuse and put a new 30amp in there just in case.

I checked the connectors on the left front side and all is well there.

I see on the wiring diagram that there are 2 brownish wires that go to the fuel pump fuse....has a fuse box ever been an issue? Could the wiring to the fuse box be an issue?

if anyone could help me diagnose this issue it would be very helpful. I have a multimeter and can test but I need some guidance at this point.

I know you can test the relay using a multimeter but what wire do i put the black lead to in order to test? ground on the fuel pump plug? a wire on the relay?

I have the wiring diagram and have been trying to trace out the connections but I am now at a standstill.

help plz

Thank you in advance.

Xlylax,

Do me a quick test.

Find the yellow blue wire that triggers the fuel pump relay. Short it to ground. You can pierce the wire sheath with a needle then alligator clip that needle to ground/frame.

Then go through the start up procedure. The fuel pump should be running the entire time.

Hopefully, she starts up and stays running.

I'll give you the bad news after... :laugh

Thank you rxf6. Will try this out as soon as I can get to the bike and will report back.

OK so I jumped the yellow blue wire from the fuel pump relay to my sub frame and when I turn the key to the on position I still do not get any fuel pump or any clicking from the relay.

Let me add that about a month prior to this happening i had to switch out my ignition and key because my original key snapped off in the rear seat latch. I did go out and but a used aTLR ignition barrel and key. It was OEM. After i swapped out the ignition the bike ran great until this issue now.

Thank you all for your help!

If the fuel pump doesn't run on key on after shorting the yellow/ blue wire then you probably don't have 12v to the relay (because that should override it) ...

(Edit) or the pump is shot

Can you measure voltage to the relay? On an S you can switch the side stand relay right next to it, but the mini Panasonic relays basically never go bad.

How do i measure the voltage on the relay? Im not sure where put the probes on the relay terminals to get the correct measurements.

Thank you again for your help 🙂

It has been two years since I dd it but you have to have a 5 volt signal for fuel pump to check on. If you have changed out keys this could be your problem.

thank you CrashB for making this wiring diagram.

What should be the next steps after shorting the Yel/Blu wire to the subframe and not getting anything to happen?

I did not get a relay click or a fuel pump to turn on? check the starter relay down by the battery? do you think that has gone bad?

thank you all for the help :) I know we can get this working again.....I just need some assistance from the TL fam :)

EDIT: it would not be the starter relay because the bike turns over.
its not the kill switch because when i switch it off and on in dealer mode I get the Check on the dash then it goes to C 41.
im going to move on and think its an issue with the ECU or the fuse box or wiring somewhere...... i tested voltage across the fuel pump fuse and got voltage......hmmmmm?

EDIT 2: when look at this wiring diagram how does power flow? does it go from key to Killswitch to pump relay then fuse box then fuel pump?

EDIT 3: i noticed the YEL/RED wire goes from the fuel pump relay to a gang connector that runs the Injectors.....where is that gang connector located on the bike......hmmmmmm??

Its been a while since I had to troubleshoot a fuel pump issue so bear with me. I'm very crude when it comes to electric diagnostics, (especially next to Six5 or rxf610) and tend to do most of my problem solving with the aid of a spare length of wire with both ends stripped and soldered into probes that I then use to bridge out parts of the system until I find the problem.

If memory serves me I jumped the red/yellow wire on the fuel pump direct to the battery to check that the pump was okay. You dont need to turn the bike on or anything for this, its just connecting the live terminal on the fuel pump to the live terminal of the battery. Do this then report back, and I will try and remember what I did next :laugh

2: Power flows from the dark brown wire to the orange/blue into the FPR, then from the FPR along the yellow/red to the injectors and the FP. (I think, as I said earlier I am rather drugged atm)

3: I think that gang connector is by the TBs, but again, I am rather drugged today :devious
