Hey Guys,

Some may already know, but for everyone that hasn't heard or figured it out, 'tis true....the website is down and I am no longer taking orders.

First, there was a slight copyright issue I had to deal with, with American Honda Motor Company. It didn't cost me too much, but it could have, and it made me pretty gun shy about all the other stuff on the site. I know Tapeworks and AllOutGraphics got hit as well, and I am assuming many others.

Then in February I took a part-time "real" job at Lowes to compensate for up and down trends in my business (and even when I was trending up, it was really only just enough), combined with an adjustable rate mortgage that was, well, adjusting.

Needless to say we were in a pretty tight spot, and the job was the "responsible" thing to do for me, and my wife and daughter. June comes and they offer me a pretty decent full-time gig as LNS (Live Nursery Specialist), which manages all ordering and care of the plants and live goods we sell at Lowes. Kind of right up my alley, really.

So the decision to shut things down came with that new postition, because running my business while working full-time really sucks. It's how I got started, and that was well before it grew into what it became. I can't imagine trying to keep the same volume while working full time.

So, it was a pretty cool chapter in my life, and it allowed me to basically stay home with my daughter for the first 3 years of her life. Not bad...

So basically, that's the story. Anyone interested in buying a vinyl plotter with software and some inventory? lol...

Thanks everyone for their business, it was truly appreciated.

It is a VinylExpress 24" Lynx plotter. Purchased from SignWarehouse.com. VinylExpress is sort of "their" brand...the software is by them as well, VinylExpress Lxi Expert is the software package.

Nope...I never carried stuff pre-made. It never made sense for me to tie up my inventory on pre-made items, when 99% of everything I did was custom made to order. Had it tied up my material in pre-made items, I'd have had to order more material overall, when those custom orders came in. Not good...:)

Essentially, it was copyright infringement. I, as well as all others making this stuff for sale on the 'net, were using their logos to make money. I guess maybe there is speculation that by me (or anyone else) selling a HONDA decal, that meant that that person wasn't going straight to Honda to buy it, thereby cutting into Hondas' potential sales numbers.
The feeling has always been that there are so many businesses selling this stuff online, that it wouldn't be worth Hondas' or anyone elses' time to go after them. That assumption is incorrect, I now know. And they didn't really want me shut down....they wanted me to either stop selling Honda stuff, or pay them 15% of all the Honda stuff I sell. So I could have kept on with the Honda items had I chose to do that, but I would have still been at risk from the other manufacturer decals I was selling, all the sponsor decals, etc. So unless I had an agreement like that with every single one of them, I was at risk of another letter in the mail from one or many. And to have an agreement with like that with everybody whos logos I was selling, would have cost me alot of money and to compensate, I would have had to raise my prices substantially just to cover all the royalties. Just not interested in that hassle.

Ah! I was wondering what was up with the Appalachian Signs & Graphics website.

This is certainly a loss for us here at the Zone. Best of luck to you Jim, your excellent services will be greatly missed and a well deserved THANK YOU is in order for providing great art work for a great price. :hail:hail:hail

Well that sucks, your stuff was of good quality and I was happy with everything I purchased from you. I did always wonder how folks got away with selling the logos since I do know that many folks (ford, disney, and definitely redbull) get really anal about other folks selling their logos.

In fact, you don't even mention looking for redbull graphics on ktmtalk. First will get your post deleted and you warned, second will get you banned. They got slapped pretty hard by RB in the past for letting folks sell RB stuff on there.

Glad to see you came out of the situation without losing too much, still sucks we can't get your stuff anymore.

I did notice a week or so ago that tapeworks had pulled a lot of the manufacturers graphics and I thought that was wierd. I told the guy that I was helping look for stuff to check your site, but then we did a headscratch when we saw it was down.

Good luck and make sure you stick around here.

Jim,

Thanks for the Squid Squad Decals, I would appreciate it if you deleted that file, so I can keep it sort of unique. Thanks Sir, I enjoyed doing business with you.

Why don't you see if you can buy the file off of him? That way you can get more made if you buy another bike or get a new member.:O
