Air duct coupler

Having been fiddling with the thermostat housing I needed to remove the fixed duct coupler that goes to the air box. Jeez that was a mess inside ... thick road filth and black as your hat. Anyway cleaned it up and the foam joint gasket and buffers have all but reduced to powder. So got to replace that ... with what me wonders?

In doing a bit more of a deep clean I had a go at the throttle bodies ... minging inside and out. It's amazing how these machines seem to run OKish even with 18 years of grime afflicting them.

FMJ,

Or how well they run without parts. That duct mine didn't even have it.... just a big open hole. :laugh or the oil separator. When I first got it I thought.... something goes here.

Got a brand new one. I know you have seen it but this is brand new so you can eyeball about how much foam you need. I have some weatherstripping that I think would work a treat. Too bad you are so far away!

Thanks for that. It is useful to see what should be there .... what's left of mine is all out of kilter and crushed beyond recognition. I was thinking of draught excluder but will try to find a sheet of something with a bit of substance to it.

Ask rich if the foam a bloke on here sent him was any good, if so the nice bloke might be able to send you a bit. :lol.

I can confirm that said foam was spot on:rotfl and just about perfect for what you are trying to do with it.

Rich

p.s Thanks again gazza

Thick one or thin one, which was better, I would assume the thicker one.

Rich seems to like it :) .... the spec ... 'thick bit' as opposed to 'thin bit' has me thinking though.

Thank you my man .... pm sent:)
any chance i could get into this?
The last bit I've got at the moment is going to 762.
We should get some more in within a couple of weeks,
I've got plenty that is only a couple of mm thick but I think the 6-8 mm will work better.
I bought a sheet of car under hood thermal insulation.I just removed the silver surface with a sharp knife holds good until now.It is like this

Mattress Wall Floor Brick Linens

Please complete your profile so we can tell what kind of bike you have.

On both of my TLSs I plastic-welded a flat sheet onto that right-side ram transfer port and another flat sheet onto the airbox (after mod to enclose area where the flapper's vacuum servo was), and made an OUTSIDE flange instead of the INSIDE flange. Of course, I didn't make any measurements of whether there was really any detectable power improvement, but the intake was a bit noisier so I'm inclined to think it made some difference and may have helped. I sealed them with thinner weatherstrip foam. On one bike I connected them with lockwire thru small holes, on the other I used bolts & nuts. Could just use some bolts or pins to force alignment and that would be enough.
