A valve cover question for the "old timers"

1500 Views 20 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  stu_m
I was given a set of TL valve covers a couple years ago. Stuck then in a box until I found a need for them. Now that I am looking at them again, I notice that the rear cover does not have the vent spigot in it. It is not missing. It was simply made without a vent. So then, my question, does the lack of a vent imply that this cover is from a '97 TLS?

Thanks.

The Ring-In is quicker on the keyboard than many members half his age. :laugh

I'm an old-timer.
One of the nice things, (which were few) about the '97s. None of the pair crap. Never knew why it was built without; never really cared. Just one less thing to get rid of.
The valve cover fitting is for the crankcase breather, and has nothing to do with the PAIR.

The late-model "velocity" "D-section" ports also work much better with the PAIR than the '97 would have.

:laugh ......to tell the truth, I didn't even really notice the old timer reference, I was just thinking which knowledgable member would call it first! :laugh
And I was right :thumbup

Which is still a pretty big number. :laugh

Maybe Stu just camps on the forum all day and is really slow like us.

My AU '98 TLS didn't come with a PAIR either :)
I wouldn't know, I wasn't even old enough to get a licence when those came out.

My 97s had pair crap

Steve, Do any AU bikes have PAIR systems (or something similar) installed?

My 97s had pair crap

....
Really? On a '97 UK TL?

Stu_m, Concerning the valve cover, did you modify it, or replace it with a later version? Or is it still not vented?
Mines a swiss import :laugh

no I did nothing with it its still stock and not vented

does it make any difference?

That's odd. So you had to put on block-of plates? Was the engine replaced? Something suspicious there...

yup I removed it all and welded the holes on the pipes and ground them flat and cut the rest of the pipe off the other end

you may have missed the bit above where I mention its a swiss import who are pretty strict on emissions

engine not replaced as far as I'm aware as everything in it points to a 97 model like the 2 wire GPS and lack of surge plate in the sump and no vent on the cam cover :)
You can remove the entire PAIR valves too, and just seal up any other hoses that went to them.
