2nd gear issues

Mine is the 2nd TLS I know to get a whine in 2nd before 70 000k's. What's that about?

My dilema is that I have the Cliffhanger Hillclimb in a couple of weeks - do I risk running with a dodgy 2nd. Honestly, if you hadn't ridden the bike most of its life you wouldn't notice - its almost as much a 'feeling' as a sound - it is very quiet - a mate rode it and couldn't spot it.

My other option is put the R engine I have on my bench in, before the hillclimb so I can fix the S. This was gonna happen anyway, after the hillclimb. Problem is the R has been sitting for 2 years with no coolant - it came with a spare rad, but the one in it was toast. I know the engine runs well, and has low k's;

What issues am I likely to get?

Do you think I'll be looking at new water pump seals, cos the last thing I want is issues like this stopping me from racing.

Iknow it's a tricky diagnosis without the patient in the room; but if anyone has had an engine sitting for a coupla years perhaps they can tell me what they faced...:O

Jimmy,

You can run an R motor in an S frame with the S radiator. With a well positioned T between the pump and oil cooler return line, you don't even have to do physical damage like my setup. Just lose the S oil cooler setup and plumb in the R lines.

If you tap the return line into the pump line I have shown, no modifications to the S radiator are needed.

Jagboy has a much cleaner solution:
