    Tl1000R wont start ;(

Changed my oil and spark plugs today.
Tried to fire up but the bike wont start.
The fuel pump starts, and when i press the start button, I just hear a strange sound instead of the start engine kicking in...it sounds electrical and I think it comes from the battery area.
    Anybody experienced this?

    When did it run last?

    Is the battery healthy?

Measure the voltage across the battery terminals when you try to crank it over.

Have you inspected the starter relay connector?

Ran it a few days ago, battery is good.
I will measure the voltage. Starter relay seems fine.

You will need to inspect INSIDE the starter relay connector looking for evidence of overheating. Also look at the RED wire leading into the connector for discoloration.

A resistive clutch lever switch can also cause strange starter relay behavior.

    Ok, thanks. I'll check it.
The noise I'm hearing is the relay vibrating when I'm pressing the ignition switch

That helps to narrow it down to a few components.

    • Bad battery
    • Bad starter relay
    • Bad battery connection (loose cables or oxidized ground connection)
    • Bad connection in the relay coil circuit (clutch switch, starter button, or gang connector)

I was recently having what sounds like the same thing. I took the clutch switch off, pulled the connections, plugged back in and manually pushed the switch. Bike started right up. Remounted the clutch switch and I was good to go. There isn't much play with the wires going to the switch. They seem to be able to come loose fairly easily.

It's on the underside of the clutch lever perch with two wires leading to it.
