Coolant bottle overflowing AND getting sucked back

So I stopped for fuel today and noticed a puddle of coolant when I came back from being gouged by the fuel cartel. I stripped off the fairing to top up the radiator so I could get home but it was full and the leak had stopped. When I got home and had a good look I noticed bubbles in my clear overflow hose from the top radiator to the overflow bottle almost immediately I started the bike. It filled the overflow bottle in a few minutes so I thought "blown head gasket ". But when I stopped the engine and it started to cool it sucked all the coolant back into the radiator which is really strange. The oil shows no sign of coolant contamination but this problem has only arisen. Any ideas ? I did think it was one of the water pump seals but there's no liquid at the weep hole. The sucking back has me flummoxed to say the least.
    Cheers

The radiator cap has failed. It is not maintaining the pressure in the system - allowing the coolant to boil before it should.

Oh come on guys can it really be so simple? Nothing else that's gone wrong has taken so little money to fix. I'll get one today and give it a whirl.
