If you have an alarm the battery drains while sitting and fucks your battery, if you don't use a tender.

I only read first 2 lines of ArnouTLS/TLR's post.

I dont want to pay those high ass LABOR fees to tell me something simple and charge me BIG!! I rather talk to you guys and pray to learn my bike. I'm Learning. *****BUT...i have no alarm on my bike. In fact, I have gotten away from this thread. I know NOT to bump it. I don't want to. Only off the bike's battery. Im searching high and low for the simple cure. Thanks everyone.

I ran into this same problem with my kawi 600 hundred a few years ago it did something weird to the rectifier. on my kawi I could see what my voltage reading was and it would fluctuate up to 18 volts and my lights would get really bright I changed out the rectifier and never had any problems after that.

I'm a lurker on the site but felt I had to chime in on this one. Too many coincidences! I have a '99 TLR named Spike as well (if you saw it you'd know why...), and I grew up in Maryland! So Bikenamspike must be my long-lost twin (or would that be V-twin??)!

I just had this same problem. The bike wasn't keeping the battery charged so if I shut her down...it wouldn't start back up unless I was damn lucky. This was happening even with keeping it on a Battery Tender every minute I wasn't riding. It turned out to be a bad stator/magneto. I'm not technical so I hope that makes sense. It cost me over $500 which was a real bummer. It seems to be better now but I still have this irrational fear of turning the ignition off. My bike has higher-than-stock compression so that doesn't help the situation much.

Now if I can only figure out why the FI light comes on now and then....

Just ride around in dealer mode and catch the code as it happens. Dealer Mode >> http://wotid.com/tls/content/view/54/60/

Hey Steve, thank you very much for that page. That's an incredible resource. I printed it AND bookmarked it. Unfortunately the FI light was one of the things I had the dealer check when they replaced the stator.

They said they took care of whatever the error code(s) was indicating, but it still didn't stop the light from coming on once in a while. Before they "fixed" it the error would come up the first time you started the bike. Then I'd shut it down and restart and the error would be gone. It doesn't affect the bike in any way. The bike does nothing out of the ordinary when that light comes on. Before I had the stator replaced I took the bike out for a test run with the FI light off. It actually came on while I was riding and that's when I decided I had to go to a dealer.

After they fixed what they thought was the problem, it was still happening but didn't seem as bad. It didn't come on as I was riding but it would still start up with the error once in a while. They told me to ride the bike in if I got the error and not turn the bike off. I guess the TL bikes don't store the errors as Gixxers do. Of course it happened again and I rode it in, left the bike running, and they took it back and ran the diagnostic. It was the same error as before (I don't know which code it was) that they already addressed. They said not to worry about it as it must be some sort of glitch causing it. And this is a very reputable and probably the largest Suzuki dealer in CO!

So anyway, thanks for the help. I didn't mean to make this a book. It's just frustrating and worrying to have a problem like that.

Gary

Are you saying they did nothing & said that is 'OK' like that?
"Just a glitch, don't worry about it!"
What a total crock they're giving you.
How exactly did that get that 'reputation' by creating spin like that?

Yep, that's what they said. I figure they were just trying to get rid of me as it wasn't affecting the operation of the bike and they tried to fix it before and didn't want to get into a can of worms. They've got a good reputation but you know how that goes....

It will be affecting the operation. The sensors that are responsible for the trimming of the mixture have default values they change to when they go faulty.

ie The IAT defaults to 40C, the ECT defaults to 80C, the AP & IAP default to 760mmHg, if one of those is the cause and the conditions are close to their default values, then you wont notice a difference.
