Been reading about the TLS clutch worm drive for year, but never really felt the need to mess with it until this week. I was sitting around and felt like tinkering so I decided to pull the worm drive out and clean it. Good thing I remembered reading about those dang little ball bearings in it!

I pull out the shop manual and have at it. The drive itself was just dirty, but the surrounding area had all kinds of gunk, like rocks and old chain o-rings. So, I give it a good cleaning, lube it up with some bearing grease, which was good for keeping those bearings in place during the re-install, make some clutch cable adjustments and all looked good.
Next day, I took my oldest son for a ride round town on the surface streets (he's still a little scared of bikes on the highway) with no issue...cool. Yesterday, I take off to run some errands and I jump on the highway. As I attempt to blast up the on-ramp I feel the pull from the engine and hear it, but damn, I ain't moving like I'm supposed to be moving.

I back off the throttle and the clutch engages, but when I jump on it the clutch is slipping like crazy! I know what it is and managed to finish my errands by not being ham-fisted. I get home and adjust the worm drive slightly. Take it back out and flog it to see if I got rid of the slipping. All is well.

Thanks for listening.
Oh and always check your tire pressures, even after the mechanic at the dealership just put a new rear tire on your bike!

I checked mine a few days ago and both front & rear tires had 20 psi. I know there were no leaks because both tires were exactly at 20 psi. Dumbasses!
