Brake fluid
After buying new tires on Monday, I figured since I have the wheel off I would clean out the brake system. Check out what I found.....

I didn't even know brake fluid can become a solid?! Before everyone says I told you so, I only bought this bike a couple of months ago so I am getting around to all the maintenance! Here is after a little work on the calipers.

Now I just have to hope that someone has seals that are not crazy expensive..........

Yeah.., now that its all cleaned out I'm probably going to go over the bars the first time I try to use the brakes. It was pretty gross stuff.........

Wow. I thought my rear caliper was nasty after 10 years of ownership. It wasn't even close to that though... maybe because I do change the brake fluid from time to time. If I were you I would basically strip everything down to check for (lack of) maintenance after seeing that.

It was amazing the stuff I found on this poor bike. I am a helo mechanic with a touch of OCD so once I got started I couldn't stop. I've replaced all fluids, plugs, removed stock fuel filter and installed external one, etc. I also found that the cooling fluid was left in the bike so long it separated into a solid inside the over flow tank! WTF?! She is on her way to recovery now. If I had an endless flow of funds I would love to buy a set of brand new flawless stock blue and white plastics straight from Suzuki. I do have a question though. What do you guys think would be the best way to flush the lines, m/c, and res? I was thinking of taking off the lines and flushing them with a syringe but not sure on m/c and res.

Perhaps the previous owner used a little bit too much assembly grease? Looks really ugly.

Our brake systems are not made for DOT5. DOT4 and DOT5.1 is what you want.
Greetings

The seal kit is $28 at RonAyers, but I found mine at local Suzuki dealer for $ 22 per caliper.

I just got the kits for both sides in today. All I have left is to clean out the res, m/c and lines and reassemble. To your guys knowledge is there a difference between the 17$ Motul DOT 4 and the 8$ auto zone DOT 4? DOT 4 is DOT 4 right?
