I am in San Diego as well and don't get me started on all the shops I have been through trying to work out issues with my TLR. I found the guys at Poway Motorcycle are pretty good. The mech, Bud, really knows his stuff. It is a small shop, one mech. But I am happy with the work they do. The only bad thing I could hint at would be to stay on top of them when they have your bike. Not sure if it was a one time thing or not but they had my bike for what seemed like an excessive amount of time before I started to call and check on it and then it seemed to move along. They do alot of DL work, but that is more than most others do in the area. Let me know if you find anything else, I am still looking for someone who really knows these bikes. I know its 10 years old but still... right?

Most shops don't like to work on bikes that are as old as the TL, if they will you are probable going to pay a little more for the service than the guy behind you in line with a newer gsxr.
Why, because the new techs have been only trained on the newer models.

I would not recommend San Diego House of Motorcycles based on my experience trying to purchase some simple XR400 parts there. They also confiscated my helmet at the door which I thought was quite rude. I can only guess that they were worried I might try to "exchange" it for one of theirs (as if I'd wanna exchange my $600 bell for one their crappy poly-carb lids anyway ).

IIRC, until this years TT, he was the fastest American to have been there. He also races locally at WSIR and runs a few AMA races a year. Do a search on any of the local forums and you will hear nothing but good about his shop.

Another good shop, not in San Diego (in Tustin), is Cycle Mall. Tige and his guys do an excellent job. Again, search local forums and you will see positive feedback for this shop.

actls, no offence, but I am sure I am not the only one with less than possitive things to say about that shop. Just because someone knows how to ride a bike fast does not mean they can run a shop. I am not the type of person to talk shit so if someone would like to know my specific reasons for fealing this way they can pm me but like sekon said, I am sure they are great with the new stuff but to be a great shop you need to know the old stuff as well.

None taken. First I've heard of it. Everyone I know that's gone there has had nothing but good to say about their service. They were all racers, some on new bikes, some on older, but like I said, haven't heard anything bad...yet. I am assuming you mean Lee's and not Cycle Mall?
BTW, I only listed these two because of what many others have said about them. Personally, noone but me or Dawn works on our bikes...and yes, Dawn can do everything from changing tires to rebuilding an engine.
Here's a few on a quick search, yup, there's 2 bad reviews. http://sandiego.kudzu.com/merchant/reviews/984122.html

If you're willing to travel a bit, depending in what you need, Matsushima Perfromance...well, he used to run Danny Eslick's AMA team and has built engines for Yoshimura race teams. And he does know a thing or four about the TL. He's also a member here, mptracing
