Track day virgin...
I decided this is the year I'm finally going to do a track day. Any recommendations from you experienced pros?
I was thinking doing a school-type thing would be a great way to get started but honestly have no idea what would be a good starting point.
Of course, I'm reading up as much as possible but would really like some opinions.
Thanks in advance...

+1 on the school type thingy.
Best way to start imo, and an excellent way to steer clear of scary situations.
Not much is required to have fun.
Make sure you got good gear and make sure your bike is in order (i.e. not too worn rubber or brake pads).
Good luck
Edit: also check if there's any noise restrictions at the track

California Superbike School should have plenty of dates in your area or somewhere nearby. I've done their class once and cornerworked for them twice. They put on a really good program and is well worth the money, especially for a first timer.
Whatever you do I'd suggest getting into a class for your first time...before you start developing bad habits.
Go, ride, have fun and keep your head open to learn. You'll be amazed at how much you can learn in a single day, how much you can improve in a single day and how much confidence you can gain in your bike in a single day.
Lastly, go ahead and warn anybody you live or work with that your doing this. You are going to come back with a smile as big as the one you had the first time you had sex. And you won't be able to shut up about your trackday for a week or two.

A Kourier has to establish space on the pavement. Predictable law-abiding behaviour lulls drivers. They mentally assign you to a little box in the lane, assume you will stay there, can't handle it when you leave that little box.
Y.T. is not fond of boxes. Y.T. establishes her space on the pavement by zagging mightily from lane to lane, establishing a precedent of scary randomness. Keeps people on their toes, makes them react to her, instead of the other way round.

Thanks for the info. For those that know what's the difference between California SUperbike school 2 day camp (~$2400) and zoom zoom novice camp, ~$600?
Obviously one has Keith Code and a whole bunch of training bikes, but is it worth the extra cost?

It's a ton more personalized with more one on one time with the instructors, and yea, you get the use of all the toys. The normal one day deal is more like a normal track class. Worth the money? I dunno, folks who have taken it say it was, but you might give the one day class a try and then see what you think. I think if you were young and planning on being a serious road racer, then maybe. But that's a lot of cash...about 24 trackdays actually. I do trackdays for fun, not because I want to be a racer. I'm not rich and I'd rather have 24 days of fun on the track. But other people could see differently.

Do you want to learn the track, rules, flags, protocol..etc.. AND be riding a new, unfamiliar bike, or do you want to ride your own bike? Main difference.
I would suggest taking your own bike...just don't ever take a bike to the track you can't afford to see balled up in a million pieces.
in other words, I would suggest the zoom school and your own bike.

One of the big benefits of a track day is the confidence you gain in your bike. This won't necessarily happen if your on their bikes. Sure you run the risk of wadding it up, but if you ride smart, you'll actually be less likely to wad it on the track than the street anyway.
