I just ran my 1st TD last week (and had an absolute blast by the way). I used a new set of Bridgestone BT-016's (triple compound, otherwise similar to Pilot Power)...they worked great and glad I went with them vs. a DOT race or slick.

The BT-016 is also suitable for the wet; it won't be anything like a rain tire though (those have some phenomenal grip in the wet). But i figured it would be nice to use a tire which would be similar to the tires i normally run on the street. For now I'd rather use a tire on the track which would show me what type of traction i can play w/ in street scenarios (wet and dry). I was impressed with where I was at riding-wise; I did ball up the sides of the tires pretty good (for a noob).

Also makes your life easier not having to swap parts out morning of. I was thinking of bringing my 2nd set of rims for a different set of tires, but left 'em at home when i decided to go w/ the BT-016's.

My other option was DOT? race tire...Pirelli Supercorsa Dragon i believe. I didn't go for these for some of the reasons which are obvious above.

Which track are you doing? Would it be NJMS by any chance?

glad u had a great day i guess your bitten by the bug now
ive done a couple of dozen trackdays now but only moved to tyre warmers and slicks for the last two they do give more grip and confidence.
all the other track tyres ive used were corsa pros or racetecs preloved some when they arrive look like theve done a couple of easy laps others like they've had a hard race but still a few trackdays left in them £40 a rear £60 a set dont know what that is in dollar but its stll cheap and u can then use up the middles on your road bike or sell them on

My favorite track is NJMSP, unfortunately I am nursing an injury from my last outing there in September 08 and I haven't ridden yet this season. I tore a rotator cuff in a minor crash and I can't ride yet. Maybe later in the summer. I just started physical therapy and I won't know what the story is for a while yet.
The Pirelli Supercorsa's need warmers. I suggest you stay with the Bridgestone 016 for the time being until you can pull times that are worthy of the more costly race rubber. When you do, you'll be needing that second set of wheels for rains since the DOT's generally suck in the wet.
