Hillclimbling advice
Ive ridden on the road for a fair few years now and have done a lot of solo antisocial rides in the process on various bikes. I've always found excuses not to do hilclimbing and track days etc due to being too busy at work and the like and also being skint! But have always fancied having a pop at it. Ive decided to get my arse into gear and make the effort to do some events(money permitting work is slow at the moment) but dont really know where to start? Ive read the threads about olivers mount and such but i still have a few questions to ask.....
Do i need to have one piece leathers or will zip together do?
Do i need to tape my headlamps up and other such things?
And also.... Will i get the piss ripped out of me if im shit on my first run?

that can be the case but this year they have introduced another cup cars split from bikes etc to cut down waiting between runs
you will need to tape all lights, indicators, mirrors etc
zip togetherleathers are fine as long as they're in good serviceable nick
you will also need dog/ID tags with full name DOB etc i bought these from ebay 110353344681 top quality and cheap
i marshalled last season to learn the ropes and i'm racing this year.
the only person your racing again is yourself. there may be a bit of banter in the paddock but i'm sure there will be many people slower than you.
the atmosphere is so friendly in the paddock, everybody helps out everybody. theres always someone with the right tool for the job or gaffa tape, whichever is required first
give it a go mate. you'll love it
if your still not sure, have a ride over to olivers mount next weekend, i'm sure there will be a spare paddock pass floating around
hope this helps and hope to see you there

All the above Don't worry about havin the piss ripped out of you, it's part of the experience I started on a DR600 with knobbly tyres, finished last in class, about 15 seconds down on the leader Guess who had the biggest smile on their face though
There is always a lot of fast people, but most of them are on the other side of the fence tellin their mates ow fast they are
You need to lockwire your sump plug & oil filler cap, also fit a sharks fin to stop fingers gettin in the bottom chain run onto rear sprocket.
As Mark says the 3 hills challenge 24th 25th 26th July, bikes only, 2 in Dalby forest 1 at the Mount, great atmosphere, everyone will always help with any problems to get you racing, even if it means you beat them
If your comin to the mount let us know & we'll sort a pass for you.
Just noticed your list of bikes, you can run 2 bikes for only an extra £20/meeting giving you plenty of practice/track time the 450 would be ideal for the Mount

Hi, there used to be a fair bit of hill climbing right on your door step at
Baitings Dam near Riponden & Scamondon Dam. Both were run by Batley Mcc I think.
I don’t know if they still run them. They also ran a 1/8 mile sprint at Esholt Sewage Works!(near Leeds/Bradford airport)
If your brakes failed there you were in the shit literary.

I think both of those hill climbs have stopped due to health & safety or some other pc do gooder shite
We now do a hill climb in Dalby forest on a 12ft wide road lined with forest & giving a terminal speed over the line of circa 140mph that's well safe
Sam 2/3rds up the course 125mph ish

Esholt was my first sprint back in 1999 on an RF900, didn't take long to realise that no corners = boring
Recognise the ropes and this background
Batings Dam was shut for Foot and Mouth reasons before I got to ride it and it never re-opened
Like Stu, James and Mark said, best thing is to pop over this weekend to Scarborough and hang out with us for the day, you'll be sure to get the bug and see some great competition, late braking and big wheelies up Quarry Hill
