Afam Front sprocket

i have bought a Afam 16 tooth front sprocket which specifies to be used with a 16mm washer to offset the sprocket....has anyone ran into this issue and why don't they incorporate the spacer into the sprocket like Sunstar does..please help on this....

I didn't get anything with the AFAM I ran on my Tiller last year that said to use a spacer. Maybe they realized later that they needed to and instead of retooling, they just said to add the spacer.

Driven front sprockets don't use a washer either.

I don't see it being an issue to use a washer if they recommend it but 16mm seems outrageous. If the AFAM sprocket with a 16mm washer doesn't line up in the same place as the stock sprocket, I'd rethink using the washer.

Even without incorporating the washer into the sprocket 16mm seems very thick...make sure to measure everything up before you run it.

Hmmm...that sounds more like it. Still, throw it together and check the chain line.

Now that I have my brain with me...even a front sprocket with an integrated shoulder/washer installs flat side to the factory hardened and ground spacer (the big shiny one that goes through the seal in the case and goes against the output shaft bearing)...This establishes the datum line between the front sprocket mounting face and the rear sprocket mounting face.

When you're using a 520 conversion sprocket that's thinner you need a shoulder or washer on the front sprocket to maintain the stock thickness so the 20mm nut can clamp the outer shim (hardened and ground flat washer w/ 25mm through hole) against the sprocket correctly. AFAM may have provided you with a thicker washer that does away with the need for a shoulder on the front sprocket and does away with the stock outer shim entirely

Pretty sure that's what's going on.

I think the stock front sprocket has a shoulder and a rubber mat on each side that deadens some of the chain noise for the EPA.

They didn't supply the washer just noted that a 6mm washer is required for proper install...

Stock front sprocket has integrated shoulders/washers on both sides.
