new to tl1000

Hello new to the tl game. Just bought a 1997 tl1000s with full fairings aftermarket im sure. Has full D and D exhaust power commander 2. The bike only had 6200 miles on it a month ago now it has 7500. When i bought the bike it ran horrible I couldnt get any one to map it so I contacted dyno jet and mapped it my self. It runs ok now . Ive always owned gsxrs but will never go back now love the v twin. I was at a bike night last night and dynorun. I ran mine but the back tire was out of balance and bounced way to much had to take off only showed ninety horse at rear wheel. I dont think that is accurate. the bike pulls harder than that. I ordered new tires. I am interested in doing the air box mod and the TRE if I can for a 1997 tl1000s. Please help any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome
Good to hear you are enjoying your bike. Once you get it set up properly and everything tweaked to your liking you'll love it.
Unless its a restricted power (import?) model, it should be putting out a lot more than 90bhp, probably 120 with PC etc. Once its set up, the airbox mod may liberate a few more ponies. Most people here will agree the way to go is to improve handling (does it have standard rear shock?). Once that is sorted you'll have a much quicker bike than you would by squeezing an extra few horsepower out of it.
You've come to the right place to gain TL knowledge!

thinks for responding timr. Just starting mod never thought this bike could be so much fun. Im hoping i cn mod airbox and get the TRE on a 1997. Plus im going to get in there and play with the maps on pc 2 while im waiting on new tires. Then i will re dyno. Im wondering if there could be fuel injector problems but its not tripping fi light and seems to run ok now.

You'll get stacks of replies when everyone wakes up! I'm guessing from your incorrect spelling of 'tyres' you must be in the States!
Can you post up any photos of your new baby?
I have airbox mod (deff made a difference) and TRE (not sure - poss smoothed things out) on my 97 S, with Yoshimura full system and dyno-tuned with Yoshi box (no PC), its put out 125 bhp on 2 different dyno's.
You could try some fuel injector cleaner - can't do any harm. Most importantly, have you balanced the throttle bodies and adjusted the tps (throttle position sensor)? That is so often the cause of rough running.

have not got pics up yet but will. it is a solid metallic blue repaint. working on mechanics of bike then considering painting it like a ww2 flying tiger p51 plane and add a pinup girl on solo seat . like the old bombers . There was a helmet out a few years ago in army green with this paint scheme it was very different and interesting. It had rivets painted call tags and a pin up girl on both sides. I have looked for the helmet but cant find. My friends say keep it blue but I want something a little diff since I plan on keeping this bike for a while . I ride with friends that have the new R1 and the CBR 1000 repsol I love pulling wheelies when they cant at the low rpm range. They get mad and amazed. Great talking to everyone here.

Howdy and welcome.

The first thing you want to do is set the TPS and balance the throttle bodies. Until those are right nothing else you do will matter.
