I spoke with two different shops today and they both gave me a rough quote of $200 to $300. I guess because my bikes a candy color it's a bit more of a project for them than a normal paint job. At this point the paint will cost more than the parts.

That's not bad at all IMO, especially since you're going with the candy.

Yep thats probably a 3 layer paint job and it takes a lot of time , being small parts does not make a lot of difference .
Spray base ... clean gun
Spray color... clean gun
Spray Clear ... clean gun
plus materials .
Good paint is not cheap

Took the bike to an auto paint store today and they scanned my bike to try to match a base color instead of going the candy route. The body shop guy said that he would paint my bike for $300 with the candy or $150 with a base color. He told me it would be a pretty close match and you wouldn't really be able to tell. I think I could run another $150 across the old lady better than another $300

the old ball and chain eh. Where would we be without them...it's 3 o'clock so I'd probly be in the pub . Should've heard the when I told her I put in an offer on a 2007 Black w gold trim and full 4-1 w carbon cans, CBR1000RR, last of the undertail exhausts (our term deposit has just matured, and I thought it looked like a good investment ) Lucky for her (yeah right) my offer was $2000 too low

Yeah I keep trying to run that "second" bike thing across her as well but she's just not going for it . I also tried to use the"investment" aproach
but she told me that I was no Jay Leno and I had no reason to own another bike.
