My guess is that the ECU is unique to that bike (i.e. a TL ECU wouldn't work) due to the orbital injectors and such, but I do not know that for a fact.

I would triple-check the wiring etc as ECU's vary rarely fail.

best of luck.

Thanks for the comment. I endlessly checked wiring, and all related systems to no avail. Not getting any spark at the plugs. All systems related to ignition checked. Then I was fortunate to be able to "borrow" a known good ECU, plugged it in and my bike started up and ran well. So, by process of elimination, have concluded that unfortunately it's the ECU.

If I can't find one, will probably investigate converting it to a stock TLR system to include OEM injectors, TBs etc...Initially a lot of work, but is readily available, inexpensive and should I experience a subsequent failure, easier to fix. And the small potential drop in top end power will be offset by much better running as mine never ran well.

That is gonna be a very hard find.
There have been some wrecks up for sale in Germany but I'm not sure if any parts are still available...

Didn't the (ex) German Bimota importer by up all the old stock when the factory shut last time If their address can be found they might have something

OR

Are there any manufacturer details on the good unit you "borrowed" I would imagine if they had a unique one made, it is quite possible it was european sourced (Magnetti Marrelli?) and the original supplier might be able to help

Alternatively it may be a question of looking at something like a Motec unit ....

It's definately Magneti Marelli who produced the SB8R ECU.
Try and contact them.

Ive searcedand seared for a SB8R ECU without any sucess, i do have a tlr ecu plus wiring loom which i was going to use but, when i get the time to rebuild the bimota it will be a bespoke wiring harness and hopefully a motec ecu or similar.
I've found several parts on ebay from gernamy for the bimota and have on several occasions asked about ecu's and they never have any.
Second hand Bimota sb8r ecu go for around £600,, brand new when available they were around the £900 touch

let me throw an idea in, sounds odd.

Firstly i dont know if the SB8R had dual throttle butterflys.

If not then.... TT600 ECU (fully programable Sagem MC2000) + loom, should be fairly cheep plus about £100 for programing code for tuneboy.

If its dual throttle bodies then possably the Daytona600 ECU.

Its a bodge, but as the ECU is fully programable then it should be possable to adapt it on the dyno...
