i had a 99 sv650s and it was a great little bike.the suspnsion was rubbish and i upgraded it with gsxr front and rear. i learned to wheelie on that bike. i got my first knee down on that bike. i won my first amateur race on that bike(against a whole bunch of 1000 I4's and a aprilia mille and a buell xb12r.)
my love for the sv is what got me to get a tl, and not some I4 or a vtr etc.

So, after reading this thread inside an out, how do the different riding positions compare? Which is more upright? The sv I think is, but not positive. Also, which one is better for a 200 mile trip? I've essentially narrowed my choice to a 2000 TLR, or a 2003 SV1000S. Any thoughts?

The SV will be more comfy than the TLR. It is more upright, bars closer to the seat, and has a thicker seat.
As mentioned, the suspension leaves a lot to be desired. It is mushy and not at all as rigid as the TL. A set Pilot Powers is a HUGE improvement, but if push it at all, you'll probably find yourself the stiffest fork and rear shock settings.
Some one makes a fork brace that will help some, as will RaceTech front springs (big deal to swap).
The torque range of the engine is much broader than the TL, with a smoother band. But as much high end or top speed.
Don't let the bad reviews dissuade you, the SV's are great bikes. They are just not geared for anything beyond sport-touring, more toward the touring.

Well, I've been used to riding cruisers, so I'm thinkin' the SV will suit me nicely. I probably won't really notice anything in suspension, I don't ride all that aggressive, but it's certainly nice to be able to pick up and go when you want/need to.
