Headlight & Charging mod questions

Since I have 3 months until I can ride again & because I dont want to have to touch the wiring I already fixed.
Looking into doing the Headlight & Charging mods.
Also because it doesnt look like I need to remove the pain in the ass airbox to do them!

Reading this thread, I noticed this link.
http://www.tlplanet.com/forum/the-w...0-definitive-electrical-system-upgrade-thread

(links dead, so I just went to their main page)
If the mod seems daunting, again you can purchase a plug n play harness from Eastern Beaver.

Is the kit/s or part/s I need on here?
& if so, which ones do I need & anything else that isnt included (headlight mod)

Same question for the Charging mod.
http://www.easternbeaver.com/Main/Elec__Products/Connectors/R-R_Connectors/r-r_connectors.html

I've had enough soldering, cutting, rewiring, etc etc etc already!
So im looking for just a Plug & Play!

Thanks

The cost varies depending on where you live. Search eBay under automotive relays $14.79 + $8.00 shipping for a set of 5 relays and automotive fuse and fuse holder $8.99 + shipping for 5 and you can find the electric wire and connection at any auto part store. Check the junk yard out before knocking it.

I have the in line fuse already, only one tho.
Not sure if both mods need 1.
Have it leftover from my phone charger I used on my last two bikes.

But yea, im thinking of just getting a fuse box instead.

Only one problem with the headlight mod.
Not sure on the charging mod as I didnt read that one very thoroughly Yet.

Is there Any difference when it comes to automotive relays?
Specs wise.
I've never had to bother with any kind of relay before & all descriptions are vague.
Only difference I can see on ebay are the number of pins (that I can follow easily... haha)

I already have all the wiring I need
Unless I dont want them all the same color, so I will probably pick up some Black (have red)

Heres a pic of the one Ricky said he bought.
So I basically just copy how it is in the pic?
Two female headlight connectors, & One male headlight connector?
Two 4 pin relays???
One wire to the negative terminal?
& one wire to the positive?

Charging mod seems like its going to be even more of a pain.

Well not a real pain, but a pain asking questions to make sure I am doing things 100% correctly the FIRST time! hahaha

(edit)
are these acceptable relays?

Good day Tombstones!! FWIW.. I have not done the charge mod your looking at..... only because since doing my simple and Cheap mod... everything has been working great. Headlights too. I'm still running the stock wiring harness on the headlights. All I have done is just my simple charging mod to get the proper charging voltage.

I even went so far as to purchase the upgraded rectifier/regulator unit off of ebay. It's still sitting in my tool box now for 5 yrs.

Just figured I would throw some Cheap n Easy at ya. :) :thumbup

Ya I've only been going over the headlight mod so far.
The Beaver charge mod kit is probably a no go like the headlight kit.
Just too expensive compared to doing it myself.

Already have your write up bookmarked to do after the headlight mod.

Didnt even plan to do any of these mods, as everything is working fine on the bike, doesnt even give me trouble starting in the cold.

But after all of the wiring fixes I've done with the sensors & injectors..... :banghead
It would be best to lessen the strain on all of the wiring.

My income tax should be arriving early this coming week, so Ill be purchasing all of the items needed.

What items do I need for the charging mod?
Wire
Battery connectors
In line fuse
spade connectors

is that it?

yep.... that's it. any auto parts house should have them in stock. Cheap an easy. Suddenly your bike has 14 volts. enjoy. :cheers

Ok, charging mod wiring is all finished & just needs to be installed.

Now trying to figure out the headlight mod.
Relays arrived days ago.

Going by this pic.

Going to buy new H4 female plugs

In that harness, where does that MALE H4 plug go?
Into one of the Female headlight plugs?
& I just wrap up the other one that is now useless????

Yes it might be easy to tell if I was looking at the wiring on the bike but I cant right now.

& grounding questions.
This How To doesnt show where to take the ground wires if you choose NOT to do the optional starter cut.

http://www.tlplanet.com/forum/the-w...ctrical-system-upgrade-thread?_=1455154215463

im Not doing the Optional starter cut mod.

So does the Positive wires go to the "30" on the Relays
& the Negative to the "85" on the Relays?

Going to buy new H4 female plugs.
You can use blade connector to make it fit.

In that harness, where does that MALE H4 plug go? Yes it plug into the OEM wiring harness. Into one of the Female headlight plugs? Yes
& I just wrap up the other one that is now useless? Yes you can tape it up.

Yes it might be easy to tell if I was looking at the wiring on the bike but I can’t right now.

& grounding questions.
This How to doesn’t show where to take the ground wires if you choose NOT to do the optional starter cut. Find a good spot on the frame to bolt it to, use one of the top rad mount, and make sure it is on the frame.

I’m not doing the Optional starter cut mod. You should do the starter cut mod it make the system work better.
So does the Positive wire go to the "30" on the Relay
& the Negative to the "85" on the Relays? Yes and Yes

If I were you I'd say forget the headlight mod and fit some of these.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CREE-LED-...193373?hash=item3d0d2f10dd:g:RYcAAOSwNyFWgjA1

I've already done my tiller with LEDs but I found these recently and I've fitted them to my car. Here's before and after pics. In the first one its low beams using the stock halogen lamps and yes the lights really are on. Second pic needs no explanation. I'm buying some of these for my wife's car and the bike.

Understood but the LEDs, even monsters like these draw much less current to start with so the overall effect is the same (or in fact better).

You improve the headlights while at the same time reducing the overall load on your electrical system without having to modify the loom.

^ nice!
Ya I have the LEDs you linked bookmarked, but from the US supplier on ebay.
Out of bike spending $$, so it will have to wait.
Plus I want to snag new fork springs first.

New H4 headlight plugs arrived two days ago.

Just finished the headlight mod wiring. ( I hope )
An absolute Mess because I am waiting to test it Before I wrap & tidy it up.

Nice out, so its time to go take the front bodywork off & hook it up.

(edit)
SUCCESS~!!!! :D :tillis

Only mixed up the yellow & green wires at the main harness headlight plug.
So the low beam was high & high was low.
Simple swap & its all good :D

MUCH brighter too!
Suns even out & they actually Hurt my eyes when I look directly into them.
Didnt have that happen since I had an HID kit on my Super Magna

now to tidy it up

Hi I am planning on carrying out this mod on my 99SX as I do enjoy riding in the evening but the poor lights are a bit disconcerting. I know this may be a rather dumb question, but where does the big yellow wire with the in line fuse go, is it the main starter relay???
Thanks

For the headlight mod?
Starts at the + on the battery and I'm pretty sure it goes to Both relays that u add in.

I didn't add the extra that turns the lights off when starting.

At work so I'm not 100% sure.
Take a look at it in the mod section.

Def do the charging mod too.
That one was a cakewalk!
