Ducati’s Davide Tardozzi Moves to BMW’s World Superbike Camp for the Next Three Years

It’s been confirmed that Davide Tardozzi will indeed move down the World Superbike paddock, and into the BMW’s WSBK effort for the next three years. The Italian team manager was at the center of some controversy after rider Noriyuki Haga failed to win the 2009 World Superbike Championship by a handful of points.

Some critics inside and outside of the paddock chastised Tardozzi for not implementing team orders, which would have kept Xerox Ducati teammate Michel Fabrizio from capturing valuable points that Haga would later need in the series.

Moving to BMW poses a big challenge for Tardozzi, who will be responsible for building the team’s progress from last year into podiums in the coming season. The German motorcycle manufacturer has very clear goals for each WSBK season, and clearly they believe Tardozzi is the man to manage those efforts, locking the Italian in with a three year contract.

At 50 years of age, Tardozzi has been involved with more top racers than we can shake a stick at, including the likes ofCarl Fogarty, Neil Hodgson, James Toseland, Troy Bayliss, and most recently Haga and Fabrizio. If there’s a man for BMW’s job, Tardozzi is it.

I didn't expect this. Hopefully it keeps BMW in the series for a long time. WSBK is the best.

Big news here. I applaud bmw for getting someone who should be able to help them up their game.
