If didn’t know it by now, let us spoil the surprise from this last weekend’s Dutch GP for you: Rossi has claimed his 100th victory. With a century of wins under his belt, Rossi is only the second rider to achieve such a feat, and along that journey, an impressive array of statistics can be compiled.

Dorna Sports has compiled a list of Valentino’s accomplishments, which really showcases what a monumental rider the Italian is, and begs the question, will a rider every be able to fill the shoes he’ll leave behind? Continue reading for a comprehensive breakdown.
  • Rossi’s 100 victories have come from 217 Grand Prix starts, this computes out to 46.1% success rate.
  • Rossi has won on six different types of motorcycle: 125cc Aprilia (12 wins), 250cc Aprilia (14 wins), 500cc Honda (13 wins), 990cc Honda (20 wins), 990cc Yamaha (25 wins) and 800cc Yamaha (16 wins).
  • Rossi is the most successful Yamaha rider in history, with 41 wins for the manufacturer. The second most successful Yamaha rider is Phil Read, with 39 victories.
  • Rossi has won at 27 different circuits, with Mugello and Catalunya being a tied for where the Italian has been the most successful, with 9 victories at both courses.
  • The most wins Rossi has had in a single season is 11…which he has achieved on four occasions: 1997 (125cc), 2001 (500cc), 2002 and 2005 in MotoGP.
  • For a follow-up factoid, Rossi’s 11 wins in 1997 is the current record for the most victories in a single season in the 125cc class.
  • Rossi’s 74 race victories in the premier-class is more than any other rider in the 61-year history of Grand Prix racing.
  • With his victory in Jerez this year, Rossi became the first rider to win at least one Grand Prix for 14 successive seasons.
  • 12 years and 313 days have passed since*Rossi’s first win in the 125cc race at the Czech GP in 1996 to his latest victory at Assen. Only four other riders have had a longer winning career in Grand Prix racing: Loris Reggiani, Phil Read, Angel Nieto and Loris Capirossi
