FIM Introduces Electric Motorcycle Series For 2010

After the excitement of the TTXGP we were left wondering… What’s next for electric motorcycle racing? How can you beat electrics racing around the Isle Of Man in the legendary TT? Our answer comes from FIM (Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme) who in 2010 begins it’s electric motorcycle race series.
The FIM is working with Azhar Hussain, founder of the TTXGP to plan the series which will exist inside Azhar’s Road Racing Grand Prix Commission. Travis Gintz, a consultant to the series informed us there will be multiple laps and all bikes will be required to have hot-swapable batteries similar to what we saw on the MotoCzysz E1PC.
Although the MotoCzysz switcheroo may break the rules being developed to govern the use of equipment. The organizers are pushing for live coverage and are woking with major media outlets to make it happen. Race tracks around the world will be in the schedule including a few in the United States.
Motorsports in general has been dominated by internal combustion engines for decades, and some series are struggling to find new fans and build excitement. The TTXGP captured everyone’s imagination and gave us exciting racing, in which we truly did not know what to expect.
Would the bikes be fast? What kind of sound would they make if any? Would any of them finish the race? Some bikes had 1 motor, some had 2 and one had 3. Some machines looked polished and exotic, some looked pieced together. Hopefully the addition of electric motorcycle racing to the FIM schedule may start a trend in motorcycle racing and we see more zero emissions races in other series.

This is pretty cool. Nothing like competitive racing to get the engineering going to push the technology to better, longer, faster, lighter. And then we'll get to see the trickle down in the long run, and not just for bikes either.

A Kourier has to establish space on the pavement. Predictable law-abiding behaviour lulls drivers. They mentally assign you to a little box in the lane, assume you will stay there, can't handle it when you leave that little box.
Y.T. is not fond of boxes. Y.T. establishes her space on the pavement by zagging mightily from lane to lane, establishing a precedent of scary randomness. Keeps people on their toes, makes them react to her, instead of the other way round.
