Bought myself a D90 for Christmas and couldn't be happier with it.

I hear you on the oily. I just sold my E-500 and got an E-520 last week. I really like the 520 so far. The new 14-42mm lens is better than the old 14-45mm so I kept the new one (also it is SO much smaller than the old one). But the old 40-150mm lens is better than the new so I kept that one instead.
I'm looking at the 300mm but I am keeping an eye on the EC-20 teleconverter. B&H Photo has used ones for $369.
