FI Tuning Geeky Stuff

Check these plots out from my FZ1. I am working with a guy over on that board and he is running filtering algorithms on
my maps. He is an expert FI tuner and works on race oriented Subarus and such. Neat stuff.

Original map, it works good in my bike. Too spiky though.

1st filtered pass

2nd pass. This is the one I plan to test tomorrow.

Nerds!

cool stuff

Are the axises rpm, tps and % change from the stock map? If so, the smoothness is only relative to the stock map right?

Correct, the map represents the PCIII "map" which is overlayed on the stock ECU base map that it reverts to when you unplug the O2 sensor, which would otherwise do it's best to undo the changes and tune to sanitized for our protection settings. We don't want that

In short, the bike needs more fuel in the lean EPA test zone lower rpms, especially after mods, and the top end is trimmed of fuel a bit as it is a bit rich, even with mods. Same story with pretty much any bike out there. You can see the biggest fuel add is at small throttle settings at cruising rpm.

The thing I am finding is the "accelerator pump" feature on the PCIII really sharpens throttle response. It gives a little extra squirt for short duration in response to changes in the throttle. I have mine set pretty "insensitive" but with a healthy squirt. I think this helps keep fuel economy reasonable with normal throttle modulation, but the thing jumps when twisted more aggressively

I am hoping the smoother map will be an improvement or, at least, not be noticeable and perhaps help with economy a bit. There is some satisfaction in it, even if I can't tell the difference

Sounds good Not surprising that the "AP" feature helps - it makes sense that it'd need a bunch of extra fuel when the throttle is wacked open, especially without the secondaries in there.

The mind boggles.

The guy that bought my dyno showed me the software they use on the later GSXR & Busa ECU's. No need for a power commander they can rewrite the map(s) in the ECU directly - piss the Suzuki base maps off entirely. And there are a whole bunch of maps in there. (A lot more simple than the TL ECU hack of removing potting to get to the programmign port etc).

They punch their data into cells and get 3D representations - with values between certain ranges nicely colour coded, same as what you have there but it's directly to the ECU, not a fudge like the Powercommander and they can do it for each individual map that exists in the ECU. (I think there might have been 16 or 32 in the Busa program I saw, not sure, can't remember but it sort of showed what a bit of a band-aid the PC is, simply adding or subracting the same values from any of the 16 - 32 (or whatever it was) different bases). IAP, TPS, Ignition, Gears 1-6, rev limit, etc, etc with the GSXR's with the map selector switch you could set those to anything you wanted too. e.g a N2O map.

I wonder if the EF ZED One ECU can be hacked as easily as that.

I was way off, I had a look at a thread Rufer linked to on gixxer.com by RidgeRace that started the ECU hacking thread here - here's a little snippet:

Quote:
The K7/K8 GSXR 1000 have been hacked and can be reflashed (also K8/K9 GSXR 600/750). However these ECUs have 450+ maps, including 86 ignition and 104 fuel, and are pushing RomRaider to its limits. A full definition takes RomRaider minuets to load and as often as not it crashes before it finishes.

Cool stuff Steve!

I heard only the Suzuki ECUs can be hacked / reflashed. The FZ1 unit can't, but not due to a lack of trying. We would very much like to do away with the timing retard in the first 3 gears. Funny thing with that is, we figured out the retard "unlocks" after 6,500 rpm. So if you want to punch it and do a wheelie on an FZ1, wind it up to 7K, wait a couple seconds, then hit it

Problem with that is, by then you are going about 65 mph with stock gearing. I cranked a 2 gear job once, set the front end down at an indicated 95 mph with a nice front tire chirp. That was a bit much.
