Holy Shit, I Got Kicked in the Nuts

Today, my Boss called me in to his office. He closed the door and said, "Our manager asked me to have a "coaching and counseling" session with you"

I said, "Ok, what's up, sir?"

"Well it seems a couple of Unit Supervisors (My former peers, I was promoted ot a higher paying job a year ago) went to HR and complained about you."

"Really?"

"Yes, it seems they said that you told them you were getting "A lot more money and working half as hard" compared to them"

"No shit, they went to HR and said that?"

"Yes, this is serious, you need to stop"

"Really, you aren't kidding are you?"

"No, Doug, this comes from our boss"

FUCK ME STUPID if this isn't the most petty piss ant whining little snivelling punk ass bitch pissing asshat thing I have ever heard! Jesus, they threatened my job because I enjoy it? What the fuck is wrong with this picture? You are too happy! You make too much money! You don't work shitty hours! You don't have subordinates!

How the fuck do I respond to this? I have a possible 24 or 25 folks that I can no longer trust. I didn't even use a dirty word. I made them uncomfortable in their workplace because I enjoy my job.

I need a new job. Man, this is fucked. I cannot believe this is happening. Where the fuck does stupid shit like this come from? Are we such pansy-assed cowards that we pander to this sort of contrived shit?

I say these motherfuckers need to harden the fuck up!

Shit, I am almost ready to toss this shit. 26 fucking years, I am a bottom level manager, a consultant and I am told I celebrated my accomplishments too much and offended some malcontented motherfucking back stabbing pussy motherfuckers. I hope I never find out who did it, as I am sure I would be compelled to offer them my opinion of their actions.

If management has half a brain, they will give you the right to discuss the matter in their presence with your "accusers". Given your seniority there and excellent track record, you deserve nothing less. If the co-worker(s) are not willing to do that, then the accusations should be treated as baseless and dismissed by management. If HR is not willing to sit everyone down and hash this out, then any disciplinary action they may come up with based on these innuendos is horseshit.

Take the high road like you always do and demand that they (HR and the "accusers") either put up or shut up.

Good luck and keep us filled in. It makes me feel better when others suffer worse "politics" at work than I do. Misery loves company and all that

That is seriously lame. Sounds like you've got some really pathetic workers who are very insecure in their own ability. Its a strange phenomena of human nature where people unable or unwilling to achieve much greatly resent those who work harder. Its gotten to the point where many who do work hard and achieve things they should be proud of are embarrassed by their own achievements due to the inadequacies in their own moral fiber. As for what to do about it, I dunno, your boss should have ed those whiny, pathetic punks and been done with it.

If it were me I'd probably leave this on my boss's desk or recite an abbreviated version to him.

That sucks, Sir. I'd hate to work with such candy-assed poofs.

I'd tell them to find someone who is better at your job than you are. When they come up short you can tell them to shove it. Granted, I like to take the low road here on the internet where I can't get fired.

I have to agree with Duke, if management won't hear your side and try to resolve the issue then they suck and don't know how to do their jobs.

Josh, as much as I like your recommendation, someone tells me that managers are the last people on earth who would understand that speech and take it to heart.

SO....it happens over there as well. Thought that only happened here!

I agree with Duken. You could ask to discuss, most likely they wont , but stand your ground and reject it and to not apoligise. If its serious they will, if not they will dismiss it You have that right to hear the complaints and to be innocent until the guilt is proven , but the problem is, and i dunno if its the same there, if management dont take a persons complaint and do the right course, then they get in trouble for it as well.
But, to think there are people who are jealous of others as they set high standards or achieve the highest.....its a sign or lack of confidence, plus being piss weak!.

So far most of my managers would already have read it and agreed with it, but I've had a tendency to work for economists or economically oriented lawyers

For next summer I've my sights set on a particular law firm in DC that would also be amenable to such tactics I think.

btw Justice Thomas used to make all his underlings watch the Fountianhead as part of their training or so the legend goes. Last time I saw him speak he was quite randian in his philosophy as well as his phraseology.

OK man. Here it goes. I know we have never had any conversations before, but here is my advice. Keep in mind it is free so do what you want with it.

1) SETTLE DOWN. The person that filed the greivence is probably a total idiot. By getting upset, they are knocking you arouund, and you can not fall into that trap. They will get what they want if you sink to their level.

2) Apologize to your boss. Unfortunately in this day and age HR is really only for one thing. Legal damage control. These goofy ass kids with their soft science practice of making the whole fucking world PC and kum-by-ya turns my stomach.

3) Ask for guidance with the apology in an e-mail. Documentation is your friend. Use it wisely. Tell the powers that be that you want their help. Throw it all back in their laps. Show them that you aren't too big to make errors. They won't know what to do.

4) Learn that you really can't trust anyone with anything from this lesson. It really doesn't matter where you work. If you throw the towel in now, it eventually will be the same at your next job. No matter what the career.

Well Doug, that my 2 cents. Keep in mind that this is coming from someone who has seen their fair share of HR meetings. Maybe my advice will work for you, maybe it wont. Just keep a cool head, apologize, ask for forgiveness and guidance, and walk on the stones form now on that you have stumbled on in the past.

Keep in mind that you worst day is never more than 24 hours long.

Jamie.

Hmmm, I sense a slight anger and frustration coming from Doug.

Doug, the only real solution I see for you at this juncture is for you to go out into the garage and mod something. Start by going to the internet, pull out your credit card, and order up an FCR39 carb, thin base gasket, FCR39 jet kit, and a Ti Yosh system. See, you should be feeling better. I'll be on my way over with the DRZ and I'll allow you to mod it as a form of therapy to make you feel all better.

Here's hoping you go with that suggestion.

Dude, that sucks. I really don't have any suggestions except to keep the on the downlow for a bit, and try pretending your job sucks perhaps.

If that doesn't work, you could order me a stroker crank and an Athena big bore kit!
