Exhaust bolts -- replace with studs/nuts?

Well, at some point in the near future I will be removing my TLR exhaust system to put on a new one. Having read all of the threads about snapping the header bolts, needless to say I'm a bit nervous. I am considering not even bothering to try loosening them, but rather just grinding the heads off, removing the remaining studs, and then doing the trick with the nut MIG welded onto the stud.

Here's my question...

Has anyone bothered to swap the stock M8 bolts with some studs and use flange nuts? If yes, what size/grade studs would you recommend? M8x40?

I changed to stainless steel bolts which I lube with aluminium paste before mounting. No problems what so ever.

When I replaced a couple gears in the trans, one of the front bolts broke. I went up to the local carquest and got two studs, a couple stainless nuts and lockwashers, no problems yet. Although. when i drilled out the broken one I didn't quite get it as straight as i would like it. Thats because I also broke two easy outs, and had a lot of dremmel time, which reminds me I still have to dremmel and tap the rest of the way the rest of the third and final headache out. I broke the drillbit, spiraled up the flutes. It still works I ended up putting some of the red lock tight on the threads which sort of work more like a lube than a locker. The studs are just like the studs you would find on your exhaust on your car. They are about 3/4 in to the non threaded part, and have about 1/4 inch of threads on the otherside. I really need to purchase a digital camera. If I had to take the bolts off again, I would have borrowed my buddies 1/4 in impact. That should be enough to pull them out with out breaking the heads off.

buy some stainless rod and cut to length and get some nuts made from brass hex bar. If you can get some bar then a machine shop can run a hole in it and you can tap it and cut it to length. It WILL NOT freeze onto stainless.
If there is interest in this as a mod I may be able to make it up as a kit.

The hot set up is a stainless stud with a brass nut. Worst case then is the brass threads strip when you try to remove them. and yes, they will torque up enough to seal the exhaust properly.

Working on cars with studs on the exhaust manifold, I use a Snap-On nut splitter...never even try to unscrew one, I just split the nut in two.

Are stainless study easy to locate/buy? Are they in the McMaster-Carr catalog?

if it is a stud ie just a length of thread it would need to be around 40mm long
I have made up a kit of stainless studs washers and brass nuts which are soon to be tested
